Possible big bagel news in Roslindale tonight

Adam Hirsh of Exodus Bagels, best known for its stand at the Egleston Square farmers' market, reports he's hoping to lox in a lease on a permanent location in Roslindale:

I just gave a Landlord 24 hours to agree to my final counter offer on a storefront for Exodus in Roslindale.

Exodus recently had a pop-up bagel sale at Redd's.

Do they compare to kupel's?

Kupel's is barely better than Lender's. Bruegger's makes a better bagel than Kupel's. So of course Exodus is better than them. But Exodus is also better than or at least on par with the few respectable bagel shops in the area.

exodus has basically turned me into a bagel groupie since i follow them around every week. kupel's doesn't compare, not even close. very excited about this news!!!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but there are to many bagel shops in Boston.

But in any case, there are not too many bagel places in Roslindale.

in Southie.

<ducks>

That was sarcasm referencing the mayors opposition to Starbucks.

But not nearly enough good ones, so

Or else we are stuck with dunkin

you have no idea what you're talking about. And you clearly haven't tried Exodus bagels or seen people waiting in line for half an hour to buy them. And no--there are actually no bagel shops anywhere near here so...anyway, um, thanks for opining.

Cranky rant over--I will be over the moon when these guys find a permanent home. Roslindale is a great spot for them, though I'll miss them at the brewery!

Are you aware of what sarcasm is? See the mayors recent opposition to Starbucks.

Bagels are the new doughnuts man, get with it.

When I lived in London, my first job was at the Great American Bagel Factory. There was a sign that said proudly, "Bagels Are America's Best Kept Health Secret." This was in 2000.

I'd like these guys to open in Roslindale. However, I think it's in poor taste to put out a message that says in effect, "I want everyone to know my new landlord is a dick if he doesn't agree to my demands."

I agree it can be read that way, but I suspect it was more of a "I'm so excited, wish me luck," type of statement. I for one am also excited, and do wish him luck. But I'll bare no ill will toward the unnamed landlord if the negotiations fall through. Both parties need to get value from the transaction.

If he had posted this to the Exodus Bagels Facebook page and named the landlord, maybe. This was his personal account, though - it seems like he was just trying to keep his friends and family informed. He's not going after anyone, just giving an update on the process, which I think we all know isn't easy.

...are definitely not that great. i have no idea why people wait in line for them but they don't taste like real bagels, are not particularly chewy, and are wayyy overpriced.

Like Mexican food or bike lanes, it seems like everyone has a strong opinion on bagel quality. It's funny, no-one ever gets worked up about say, Thai food like this.
