Traffic was backed up for miles after a car caught fire at the height of rush hour westbound, just past Newton Corner.

Is it me or are there a lot of cars erupting of late?

Seems I have read several similar stories on UHUB of late.

Any of these cars have similar stories, make, model, mechanic?

Because of the effect on traffic, but I think we might just be seeing better reporting, or at least, people sending me photos (same as with trucks on the river roads).

Traffic was fubared pretty far into Newton and Brighton and Watertown because everyone wanting to go west was impeding everyone wanting to go east, north, and south making the whole area around Exit 17 a snarled mess.

Now's the time of year when people's "toy" cars come out, after sitting all winter with ethanol laced fuel eating at their fuel hose. The hose weeps a bit then you get an electronic spark from the ignition system and poof! Car fire. Keep them corn subsidies rollin' boys...
Seriously I'd like to know the year, make and model of the cars catching, it would be telling. Newer cars have ethanol resistant line in them. Older cars do not, or, what might be likely, lines being replaced with incorrect, older style fuel lines.

Hoping no one was serious hurt in this but I can confirm the dramatic effect on traffic. Coming from a doctor's appointment at Mass General, it took me 1 hours and 45 minutes to get to work in Natick which normally takes about 30 minutes.
