Sumner Redstone sells West Roxbury Home Depot property; in other news, Sumner Redstone owned West Roxbury Home Depot property

The Boston Business Journal reports the local boy (and Boston Latin grad) made good sold the property to Home Depot, so we probably can't expect a new mixed-use megaproject on the site.

The BBJ doesn't note how Redstone came to own the property, but it used to be home to the VFW Parkway Drive-In, operated by the forerunner to his National Amusements, which was started by his father, Michael.

I wish it were still a drive-in, we shouldn't have to go to the far reaches of the Earth to enjoy that experience!

From the link it appears Home Depot purchased the property which hopefully means it's there to stay and they will expand it.

It IS a smaller HD, but unless they add an annex or an L-shape to use some of the parking lot, I don't think there is really any open land for them to expand the building.

Which you can see when you go up to Millennium Park. But expanding into the parking lot might work, too - that lot is rarely filled.

The lot is pretty packed on holidays and it's also used as overflow by the hospital across the street. It would be nice if they used the area out back to expand a little but their garden section is actually pretty decent sized already compared to some of the other stores in the area.
