Police: Shotgun-toting Mission Hill burglar foiled in getaway when jacket gets jammed in his bicycle wheel
Boston Police report arresting a shotgun-toting burglar they say got sloppy in his escape.
According to police, Andre Hopkins, 47, of Roxbury, broke into an apartment at 60 Wait St. on Mission Hill around 7:10 p.m. on Sunday, grabbed a laptop and other items, then pedaled furiously away on a blue bicycle. Not too long after, police say, officers spotted a man and bike matching a witness description at Shawmut Avenue and Dudley Street in Roxbury, going "at a high rate of speed."
Officers followed him for several blocks until "a winter jacket he was holding got caught in the rear wheel of the bike, causing it to come to a sudden stop."
Officers were able to place the suspect in custody after a brief struggle as the suspect repeatedly yelled, “What did I do? What did I do?” The officers were then able to recover a loaded Mossberg shotgun along with the stolen laptop and several other items that did not belong to the suspect. The suspect was positively identified for the breaking and entering and was transported from the scene without further incident. While at the booking desk, the suspect stated, “You ain’t gonna charge me with that gun are you? I found that. I took the other stuff but that gun wasn’t mine.”
Hopkins was charged with carrying a shotun in a public way, unlawful possession of ammuntion, breaking and entering, resisting arrest and trespassing, police say.
Innocent, etc.

One just has to laugh at
One just has to laugh at criminals like this. What he did is far from funny and hopefully he spends (at least) the next twenty-five years of his life away from law abiding citizens, but how he behaved while being booked is quite amusing.
what?
25 years in jail for B&E?
Even I think
That's excessive, largely for the fiscal reasons cited below.
Cost in MA for 25 Years...

In 2014 this was $53,040.87 so that works out to at least $1,326,021.75.
Ha ha ha! No sympathy for the gun-toting burglar1
He totally deserved to get caught..and he did!
Did he find that shotgun in an apartment?
I sure hope my neighbors in my apartment building don't have guns. Even a .22 pistol or a shotgun loaded with rock salt might go through these old walls.
You're just sleeping, minding your own business, and BLAM! Neighbor just woke from a bad dream and blasted a non-existent burglar, no attention to what else was in that direction.
hmmm
You seem to have an active imagination. Good thing your hopes and dreams are just that.
Woohoo!
Score 1 for the bikes!
