J.L. Bell picks up Charles Swift's post on Mt. Whoredom's conversion to Louisburg Square with more details on Boston's original Combat Zone:

I love Washington's other creative spelling: "Bacon Hill". I hesitate to call it a misspelling, not knowing how standardized the spellings of place names were at the time. (My guess is not very).
The brothels didn't move far
The red light district then just slid down the hill to Boston's first Combat Zone, old Scollay Square, now home to City Hall and the JFK Federal Building. How appropriate. At least people still get screwed there.
