Citizen complaint of the day: Parking-sticker angst in South Boston

A perplexed citizen files a 311 complaint about a car parked on East 2 Street:

There is no resident sticker affixed to this vehicle. If a sticker was issued why isn't it on the vehicle? How do the residents know if a sticker was issued? If it had a sticker I wouldn't be wasting my time and yours!

I am a one who uses 311 from time to time (mostly in winter). I usually do text complaints, but if the resident thinks they are mucking around, he should snap a photo of the back of the car as proof of a violation.

This complaint is actually a follow up to a previous complaint.

See: https://311.boston.gov/reports?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=101002051628

The first complaint didn't have a pic either, but had a lic plate. 311 replied, "This car has a sticker issued". What I think is happening is that 311/Transportation is looking in their computer and saying the car is registered, even if the sticker isn't displayed. Complainer is saying, "well fine, but if they have one, it's not on their car"

So the picture would just be a picture of a window.

And if the window was really clean, it would just be a picture of the inside of a car! And if the car had a cloaking device, it would just be a picture of the street!

I did read the current complaint beyond what Adam wrote, but I never took the step further back.

I don't know what to think. The car is legally registered in South Boston, so they are in compliance. I guess the final comeuppance would be if parking enforcement just started giving the car tickets, making the owner have to go to City Hall to point out the fact that they do have a resident sticker. Somewhere.

Of course, where is the sticker?

This person has WAY too much free time on their hands and should put that to use in a job where their finely honed attention to detail will be an asset.

Yet just one more example of a pissy use of a useful tool. What a shame.

You have to wonder about these complainers? Where do they come from? Clearly they are not Boston born and bred. Life timers here have far better things to bitch about.

in resolving the parking issue in south boston is to have resident parking 24/7 and not just on the weekdays.

with all the new restaurants we have people coming in from all over eastern mass on the weekends and they take up all the spots.

the next step....bike lanes! it will encourage people to ditch their cars.

third step....start charging for resident permits.

fourth step...add more zip cars

there you have it...a 4-step plan. make it happen marty!

Some people go through a lot of effort to police who is allowed to visit their neighborhood using a public street.

You walk down your street, which has resident parking, and see a car without a sticker. You report said car, especially if you see it all the time. Heck, the stickers are even on the passenger side, making it easier to spot.

If I lived in an area with resident parking am had a rough time finding a spot, and saw scofflaw parkers, I'd drop a dime in a heartbeat.
