Divers search Jamaica Pond after discovery of abandoned bike on the shore; bicyclist found OK

Boston first responders converged on Jamaica Pond this morning after the discovery of a seemingly abandoned bicycle on the shore with footprints leading onto the ice - but none coming back.
But police soon found the bike owner safe and sound - and dry - on the other side of the pond. Capt. John Greland at E-13 reported around 10:45:
Located person who owns the bike, she is OK, said left bike and walked across the pond and didn’t come back. Located the person by an ID number on bike. Units clearing out.

Dear everyone: when it is 50 degrees for two straight days, it is not a good idea to go out on the ice. Hell, even after it's been -4 degrees for a week, it's still not a good idea to go out on the ice solo.

I somewhat disagree with your assumption, in that it takes longer for water temperature to change than it does air temperature.
It is the same way on the other side. Two days of a sudden deep freeze does not make it safe to walk on an icy pond. A week would do it. Two weeks definitely. On the other end of the equation, a few days of temps 10C above freezing would not necessarily mean the ice is unsafe.
Of course, better to be safe than sorry, so in the case of Jamaica Pond, I wouldn't feel too safe walking across even in the coldest of weather, but a shallower location like the lagoon in the Public Garden I would do today.

That seems like a very self-absorbed, irresponsible, and clue-less person. Imagine if a responder was injured somehow investigating these tracks to nowhere.

Yes someone could have been injured, but they typically have the right equipment for these rescues. (Did you see that video last week of authorities rescuing a goose that got stuck in the ice?)

No, but I did see (maybe 1.5 - 2 weeks ago) a firetruck stopped by the parking area behind the pond; firefighters were watching someone (who didn't appear to be a firefighter) walking across the ice towards them.

This young lady did nothing wrong, she didn't ask for the cavalry to come looking for her. Of course it's great they did because 'you never know' but the young lady in question didn't go out looking to cause a raucous.

I believe the owners of the pond in question (i.e., we), have forbidden people from walking on the ice.

Similar to the Worcester Cold Storage Fire in 1999. Those homeless people that started the fire should've told the firemen that no one needed to be rescued in the building.
Important note
The people who accidentally started the cold storage fire were legally intellectually disabled and terrified.
There was also no possible way for them to know that "no one needed to be rescued", as it was a very large building with a complicated layout and a magnet for people such as themselves (and they were intellectually disabled). The FD would not have assumed that it was empty.

... of curiosity and adventure and maybe early spring fever. Other people assumed doom and gloom. It’s not like she put out an illegal space saver and went off hiking in her flip flops up Mount Washington.

If she walked across the pond, weren’t there footprints AFTER said hole in the ice? How did they disappear? Scratching my head here.
