Police say drunk Randolph man fired gun into air in argument outside Leather District restaurant

Boston Police report arresting a man with a valid gun license but not a valid reason for firing it early this morning outside Savvor Restaurant and Lounge, 180 Lincoln St.

Police say Dewayne Morris, 31, got into an argument with somebody inside Savvor around 12:15 a.m. The two took things outside and "Morris fired the pistol into the air to scare [the other guy] away," police say. The sound of gunfire attracted the attention of numerous people nearby, who called 911, and a Boston cop working a detail nearby.

Police say Morris did not wait around to see if his tactic worked; he jumped into the back seat of a white BMW that sped away. Police caught up with the car on the Expressway northbound near Andrew Square.

The officers conducted a stop of the motor vehicle and ordered the three occupants to exit the car given the nature of the incident involving a firearm. Inside the vehicle on the backseat, officers observed a black pistol holster on top of a green jacket with a bright orange liner matching the description given by the 911 callers. Officers requested a K-9 to sweep the vehicle for any indication of a firearm, and the dog indicated on the pouch behind the front passenger side seat. Upon further investigation, officers recovered an unloaded 9mm Ruger LC9s from the pouch. The backseat passenger, identified as 31-year-old Dewayne Morris of Randolph, advised officers that he possessed a MA License to Carry, and officers confirmed it was active; however, they also noted that Morris had an odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and appeared intoxicated. Officers recovered the firearm, the holster, the jacket, and the firearm’s magazine from under the jacket. Officers also recovered shell casings at the scene near Beach and Utica Streets.

Morris was charged with disturbing the peace, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling/building and carrying a firearm while under the influence of liquor or drugs, police say. The car's driver and another passenger were released without charges, police add.

Innocent, etc.

Don't mix and anyone whether its a cop or a con or upstanding citizen who drinks while carrying a loaded weapon should forfeit his right to carry a firearm.

Unless he is a cop or VIP, he will never have a license again in MA after a stupid act like this.

So you would rather the problem get out of hand and someone gets hurt. I think the young man made a smart choice by firing a warning shot to stop things from getting any worse. Just because he had a drink does not mean he was drunk. You people seem to be convicting him before he enters the court room. Would you have felt better if he shot the person? Young man thank you for thinking on your feet. I wish you the best. Any half decent attorney will get all these charges dismissed.

Not unless you're an old white man

Bruce O’Brien was arraigned in Plymouth District Court on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm under the influence of liquor, discharging the gun within 500 feet of a dwelling, and disorderly conduct, Plymouth County prosecutors said.

Bruce O'Brien got drunk and fired at the snow plow guy for not moving fast enough. Kept his license. Hmmmmm
