Police: 14-year-old was hanging out in Roxbury playground with a loaded handgun
Boston Police report arresting a 14-year-old from Dorchester on gun charges yesterday after, they say, officers found him at the Trotter School playground at Humboldt Avenue and Waumbeck Street with a gun loaded with four bullets.
According to police, members of the BPD gang unit were on patrol around 6:45 p.m. when they spotted "a large group" smoking in the playground after dusk.
Officers approached the group and while speaking with three males, observed one of them to suddenly start breathing excessively, leaning forward as if to conceal an item inside of the front pocket of his sweatshirt. Fearing the male was in possession of a weapon, officers asked the male to stand up in an effort to possibly identify the item he was trying to conceal. At this time, the male attempted to flee from officers, but was immediately apprehended. Officers located a SCCY CPX-1 firearm, loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, from the suspect’s waistband. The suspect, who did not possess a valid license to carry, was taken into custody.
The teen, too young to have his name released, is scheduled for arraignment in juvenile session at Roxbury Municipal Court on Monday on a charge of being delinquent for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm, police say.

Hello kitty
Gun dude finally got busted.
It would be nice
if BPD reported where the gun was stolen from. If the S/N is still there it would only take seconds.
That would require contacting
That would require contacting the ATF and then BPD would have to return the stolen property rather than selling it to a bonded warehouse at the conclusion of the criminal case.
Do you really think any PD in MA is going to give up the chance to generate revenue for their budget by selling evidence to bonded warehouses?
All seized weapons not
All seized weapons not returned to the owner are destroyed.

Why do you assume the gun is
Why do you assume the gun is stolen? It could have been legally purchased and unlawfully sold or given to the 14 year old.
Should be standard to trace
Should be standard to trace this back and see what happened. Was sold legally at some point.
It's not like somebody could illegally get a hold of my car and cops would be throwing their hands up saying we just have no way to figure out where this came from.
Maybe it's too common for people to care about but a 14 year old getting their hands on this gun is a huge deal.

Dreams
When I was 14 I used to dream of living to 15 and then 16,17 and so on. You see in boston when u live in community's of color you feel unprotected so our natural instinct to live was to self protect. I'm proud to say I'm in my 40's but I have lost over 100 friends since 1991 in Boston most of who didn't self protect = R.I.P
Privilege clouds our perceptions
Those of us who grew up in soft, safe environments only dimly understand that a 14 year old's need to carry a gun is not necessarily because he wants to live some kind of gangsta fantasy, but just that he thinks it'll help him make it to 15. It is important that your voice be heard.
It's also important to remind
It's also important to remind everybody that, while the instinct to carry for self-protection is very, very, very understandable, carrying a gun in an urban environment does not make you safer or more likely to survive to your next birthday. Numbers lie sometimes, but on this point they're quite clear and honest.
Oh, gimme a break!
The only thing worse than "let me tell you how it really is!" people who think they speak for an entire group are the passively interested "oh my virgin ears!" pearl-clutchers.
Boston's homicide rate is 1/3 of what it was in the 1990s--not that you needed a gun then. I grew up in pre-gentrified "tough" Mission Hill. Guns were never a conversation in my family. Everybody in the neighborhood knew where the trouble was. "Stay out of trouble!" was as much a physical statement as it was a figurative one.
Saying that you need a gun because you "live in a community of color" is not only ridiculous in its over-generalization of urban adolescence, but a slap in the face to the myriad of people and organizations that work tirelessly every day to find more productive things for teenagers to do, whether it be working,tutoring/being tutored, volunteering, going to afterschool programs, etc.
Lucky you
Not everyone has a family like you do not everyone has the smarts that you do. So staying away from trouble that looks for you is impossible. But u didn't have that problem. Lucky you.
Try telling
Try telling the parents of the innocent children who were murdered in the streets that boston That it's not so bad.
Wait, are we now making real
Wait, are we now making real guns that look like fake guns? The orange color makes it look like a toy to me. Why are fire arms coming in fun sassy colors?
I thought orange color
Represented a toy gun? So cops wouldn't shot kids accidentally.
Bright orange collar on the end of the muzzle.
The "this is a toy gun" marker is not an overall orange color, but is a bright orange collar on the tip of the muzzle. But folks have been putting bright orange collars on real guns too.
Fashion
Gun manufacturers are trying to attract more female users with these color options. Plus this pistol can be bought for under $300 USD making it possible for younger buyers to afford.
