Bringing cops into Downtown Crossing by the busload
By adamg on Fri, 09/25/2020 - 5:12pm
Matthew Wilding watched as a busload of Boston police officers got out on Summer Street in Downtown Crossing this afternoon, in advance of the Breonna Taylor protest.
Kory Gladysz watched a convoy of three buses bearing cops to the Common:

What buses are they using now
What buses are they using now that the T has committed to no longer transporting police?
Longwood Buses
They look like the privately operated Longwood shuttle busses.
Nope, not MASCO shuttles.
Nope, not MASCO shuttles. Those are a different livery, seen here.
The blue also made me think of Massport, but it's not quite that livery either.
EDIT: FOUND THEM!

They're the buses Paul Revere Transportation uses for the EZ Ride shuttles in Cambridge.
MassPort?
They look like the airport shuttle buses.
Paul Revere buses
The ones in the picture look like the EZ-Ride (Charles River TMA) buses, which are owned/operated by Paul Revere.
But rest assured, there will be different buses next time -- the Cambridge biotech companies will flip out about this in half a second.
There's a lot of irony out there these days
Pot legalization and civil protesting about policing practices (more national than local) have directly resulted in local cops get so, so much OT money. The pot thing is particularly irritating given that you'll never see a cop outside a packie or pharmacy collecting checks for 'security'.
Aren’t the pot businesses
Aren’t the pot businesses cash only due to the whole federally illegal thing? I always though they were there due to all the cash on hand
People protest cops shooting
People protest cops shooting innocent people who are sleeping in their own house? Cops profit with overtime pay. These pigs profit off of their own murder.
Glad to see city taxpayers
Glad to see city taxpayers getting double dipped for bus rentals while owning a massive fleet of busses.
Mbta sure did a great job sticking it to the cops err taxpayers.
The city doesn't own "a
The city doesn't own "a massive fleet of buses". The MBTA is a state agency.
Unless you were referring to BPS buses? I can't recall if BPS runs those in house or contracts it out.
Split hairs all you like.
Split hairs all you like.
very recently
posters on here went to painstaking lengths to explain that the city of Boston has no authority over the MBTA
I'd like to see...
...a bunch of cops riding in school buses! I wonder why they didn't use those, since they are currently just collecting dust?
surprisingly enough Boston
surprisingly enough Boston does actually own the buses, though they contract out operation and maintenance so getting drivers for non-scheduled stuff might be a challenge depending on how the contract goes.
MBTA is not a city agency.
MBTA is not a city agency.
The MBTA stopped transporting police after workers told management they weren't comfortable with police tactics that were putting customers in danger. They chose to prioritize customer safety.
How can you talk about taxpayers saving money, without giving a huge stink eye to the police, both Boston and State Troopers, who have been in the news constantly for payroll fraud? Not to mention all the million dollar + settlements we get stuck with every time a cop brutalizes someone or sends an innocent person to jail by withholding exculpatory evidence. (examples here: https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2015/05/14/boston-spends-million-resol...)
Get rid of the state police.
Get rid of the state police. They are the biggest gang in Massachusetts. Fuck those crooks.
Eloquent As Always
Didn't I see you on Firing Line once?
Those MBTA buses were free, right?
Well, other than paying the driver overtime, and paying the cost of the bus, which someone was on the hook for. Unless the police were all tapping their Charlie Cards and paying fares I assume the taxpayer was on the hook for that one, too.
I hope they have the most boring shift ever

Good.
