Now he has to sit there and watch women have rights. What a horrible burden. This rich scumbag is the answer to questions I haven’t heard decent people ask.
I want people who support him to not participate in elections with me. Go sit in the corner with Trump and McConnell jerkoffs.
Governor Too-Little-Too-Late is just your run of the mill, untrustworthy business as usual republican. He claims to be moderate, but his record proves otherwise. We need him gone.
But here the Government is giving their consent. Vaccines ,Tattoo and Piercings need parental consent and Abortions do not.
Seems straightforward.
They will probably update everything so parental consent is not needed for most things, after all, the best parent is the Government.
And we should stay out of their sex lives, it's none of our business. Children can decide all these things on their own.
We actually shouldn't have any say over their lives unless the Government says we should.
I'll turn in my parental card to the local official.
Who ends up pregnant experience at least a few of the the following:
being socially ostracized;
getting kicked out of her home; forced to drop out of school,
endure an unwanted "coupling" with a loser boyfriend or f-buddy simply for appearance sakes;
endure possible physical and/or emotional abuse;
get saddled with an untenable financial burden, etc, etc.
Just because your Nana or Auntie had those experiences, doesn't make it right.
How about a legal guardian taking her to get an abortion, comforting her and being there for her in a troubling tine,? Most people I know are not anti abortion, but most don't appreciate being cut out of their responsibilities because politicians think it's best.
One can come up with worst case scenarios for lots of things but it doesnt mean the Government needs to be the parent.
If you tell your kid to stop hanging around with a group of kids because they are bad the kid might resent it and run away, so Mama Government should say kids can hang with whoever they like so they won't run away?
A legal guardian would do that willingly, yet between the 1.2m folks in MA who voted for Trump, plus the millions of others who have religious and other hang-up's on sex being specifically for procreation, etc, who themselves are already uncomfortable with talking to their teens about sex and birth control, much less pregnancy or abortion, the pool of "willing and comforting" guardians is already greatly diminished.
The reason why consent is required in many places is due to a stipulation in their insurance policies. They are not legally required to obtain it.
I think abortion should be legal without consent at all ages but I'm surprised there are facilities in MA willing to offer the procedure to those under 18 without consent for the same insurance reasons. Does the change to the law give them a defense if sued?
Do you feel the same way about being able to be sent overseas with guns to kill/be killed at 18 but not being able to have a shot (or now a smoke) until 21?
If I want a tattoo now and have to wait a year, nothing major has changed. If someone is two months pregnant and wants an abortion now, making them wait often means making them carry the pregnancy to term, and definitely increases their risk.
Very few parents will throw their daughters out of the house if they say they want to get a tattoo. Even fewer will punish their children for asking for a flu vaccine.
Not getting a tattoo or piercing is safer than getting one. Carrying a pregnancy to term is riskier than getting an abortion.
Also, I think sixteen-year-olds who want to be vaccinated shouldn't need parental permission. If you want to start a campaign to change that law, I'll support it.
Make it younger with no parental notification that their child has had sexual intercourse with someone. It's not really our business anyway, the State will make sure she wasnt forced I'm sure.
A school counselor can drive her to get an abortion and have her back in math class in a few hours. Shhhhhhhh.
I love how all of you proponents are sexualizing minor girls. Why not let them sell some pics of their sex acts while they're at it? It is their bodies and their choice, right? I mean, it's only sex. Who really cares if some 74 year old ex president gets his jollies from it. Why would anyone care? They get lonely too, now that Jeffrey is gone. Where do they get comfort?
As a (small l) libertarian I actually hold thoughtful conversations about such topics. The world is not as full of absolutes as the woke believe.
It's not a law about the girl anyway. It's a law about the doctor. S/He/They are the one who was sanctioned in the last for performing the abortion. Many did anyway, on the QT. That was the new don't ask, don't tell.

it is YOU, filthy progressive type, who is arguing in absolutes; not me, especially not just a paragraph ago when i reduced the conversation to ridiculous hypotheticals:

false equivalence, mockingly peppered with ostensibly liberal buzzwords:

OK, you were a music major, so I will give wide latitude to trying to understand you through words. But seriously, if you believe you made an actual point you have real problems. Nice try with the Latin though. It really makes you seem smaht.
I worked for years in adolescent sexual health and volunteered with the Eastern Mass Abortion Fund. This law will help so many people. I don't think most folks realize how these systems impact people in reality.
Judicial bypass is a fundamentally unfair and burdensome process to put a young person through and I have nothing but the utmost respect for the lawyers who have helped young people through it over the years.
And the post-24 weeks portion of the law is way overdue. No more trying to pull together tens of thousands of $$ to get to one of the two states that provides it - 2!! - to get a third trimester abortion.
Amazing work on the part of our advocates here in Massachusetts.

Um, Adam
I get you were excited to post this, but the post is kind of lacking.
His (article's) body, his choice
He aborted the post. It's more legal than ever now.
Missing link
I assume "The Dig" was supposed to link to an article?
Sorry
Post now links to the actual article.
Poor Charlie
Now he has to sit there and watch women have rights. What a horrible burden. This rich scumbag is the answer to questions I haven’t heard decent people ask.
I want people who support him to not participate in elections with me. Go sit in the corner with Trump and McConnell jerkoffs.
Remember:
Governor Too-Little-Too-Late is just your run of the mill, untrustworthy business as usual republican. He claims to be moderate, but his record proves otherwise. We need him gone.
In the midst of a global pandemic...
Charlie learns that 16yo's may be engaging in sexual activities. The madness never ends!
Can my kid get a flu vaccine without me
"No, we need your consent"
A tattoo or piercing? "No we need your consent"
An abortion? "Sure she can, no problem"
I don't believe so, but do
I don't believe so, but do you know what else your kid can do without your consent?
Lots of things
But here the Government is giving their consent. Vaccines ,Tattoo and Piercings need parental consent and Abortions do not.

Good points
We should remove parental consent requirements for vaccines, tattoos, and piercings.
You forgot cigarettes,
You forgot cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.
Go for it.
And we should stay out of their sex lives, it's none of our business. Children can decide all these things on their own.
We actually shouldn't have any say over their lives unless the Government says we should.

Careful
Pearls can crack if you clutch them too hard.
So you would prefer that a 16yo female

Using worst case scenarios

If you tell your kid to stop hanging around with a group of kids because they are bad the kid might resent it and run away, so Mama Government should say kids can hang with whoever they like so they won't run away?
In a perfect world...
Exactly. Don’t be an asshole
Exactly. Don’t be an asshole parent and your 16 year is more likely to come to you in situations like this.
Insurance

Legit question
Do you feel the same way about being able to be sent overseas with guns to kill/be killed at 18 but not being able to have a shot (or now a smoke) until 21?

Why make it 16 then?
Make it younger with no parental notification that their child has had sexual intercourse with someone. It's not really our business anyway, the State will make sure she wasnt forced I'm sure.
A school counselor can drive her to get an abortion and have her back in math class in a few hours. Shhhhhhhh.
That was the goal
The ROE Act, as filed, eliminated the age minimum entirely. The compromise bill reduced it from 18 to 16.
Maybe because the age of consent in MA is 16?
Ironic, right?
Sexualizing children

In small words
In small words, since that seems about your speed: you spun a bunch of irrelevant bullshit and you got called on it. Now go peddle your papers.
...and to take an analgesic
