Election roundup: Don't stop with the 28, Wu says; Diehl proves once a trumpie, always a trumpie

About the same time that acting Mayor Kim Janey was announcing for-reals free service on the 28 route today, at-large Councilor Michelle Wu, also running for four years in that fifth-floor office overlooking Faneuil Hall, was announcing a plan for even more ambitious free bus service, along with the boffins at Northeastern's Dukakis Center for Urban and Regional Policy.

The 66 bus connects residents of Allston and Mission Hill with commercial hubs in Harvard Square and the Longwood Medical Area, similarly facing some of the most congested space in the city, and longstanding environmental justice populations. Finally, the 116 connects East Boston with Chelsea, serving Boston residents facing high rates of air and water pollution and toxic emission exposure due to the pollution from Logan Airport and the Massachusetts Turnpike - including storage of all of the airport’s jet fuel, heating fuel for over 70% of New England, and particulate matter from road salt for 350 New England communities

Geoff Diehl, who ran the former guy's Massachusetts campaign in 2016, had been pretty quiet about his ongoing support for trumpism, but goshdarnit, he just couldn't help himself and burst out all trumpie on Channel 5 yesterday.

The real question in this election cycle is going to be why didn't Charlie Baker support the president and his policies?

State Rep. Nika Elugardo (D-JP, Mission Hill) endorsed Kim Janey:

Her victory will set the progressive movement on fire in the most disenfranchised neighborhoods of our city.

The Democratic committee in Ward 15 (Dorchester) endorsed Ruthzee Louijeune and David Halbert for two of the four open at-large seats on the council, couldn't reach consensus on the other two seats or on a candidate for mayor.

The Scope interviews Halbert.

I don’t think setting a neighborhood on fire is the best image to spread around for a candidate you're endorsing.

New word of the day (to me).

I think Governor Baker's non-support of the ex-President's policies stemmed from his ability to separate hearsay, intuition and down right lies from facts. You need facts to even begin to form a policy decision. My ex-President ignored them.

and Geoff Diehl clearly does not.

Of course, it involves the city underwriting the cost of two bus routes that run outside of the city, one of which ferries commuters from Chelsea and Revere to Maverick Square, but hey, at least she finally got her plan out.

Now is the question of funding. Not an insignificant question.

Not just Roxbury, Mission Hill, and Longwood Medical Area, but also Allston.

Where is the area between Allston and Longwood located? I’ll give you a hint, they voted not to be a part of Boston in the nineteenth century and could probably afford to pony up the cost of running the 66 themselves rather than having Boston taxpayers pay for it.

I can assure you that it is used by a lot of Boston residents to get around the city.

And if some residents of other places benefit, great! It seems bizarre to avoid doing something that would help people on the basis that it might help people who live outside city limits.

Does the word "disenfranchise" no longer refer to the right to vote, or is the state rep accusing the city of voter suppression?

Maybe she means because people in local government keep acting like unelected ministers are equal to elected officials as important voices for those neighborhoods, this despite like 50% being out of town grifters.

It means that people aren't being properly represented by their government, whether that's directly because they're not able to vote, or because the government is ignoring their particular needs.
