Citizen complaint of the day: JP needs to be protected from marauding hordes of golf fans crossing over from Brookline in a couple weeks

An increasingly concerned citizen files a 311 report urging Boston to do something now to protect Moss Hillers, pondsiders and other Jamaica Plain residents from an impending flood of US Open fans seeking free parking over the line from the Country Club in Brookline June 16-19:
US OPEN country club attendees plan to park in JP Center and Moss Hill -- according to social media posts, some of the 80,000 expected attendees of the US open golf tournament in June at the country club in brookline are planning to park in Jamaica plain on street and moss hill to walk to shuttles at Larz Andersen. Signs need to be posted on all streets in JP and moss hill especially batting on street US open parking or it's going to be a nightmare for residents. Brookline has no parking in vicinity.

has a point. I imagine if you're the sort of person who is invited to or can afford to attend this kind of event (spot check on tickets: $2400 for the week), you can afford legal parking somewhere, maybe take an Uber/Lyft to it so you're not illegally stealing parking from locals.
I'm not a golfer, but The Country Club seems like a pretty dull course for this kind of thing, however historically significant it is.
Also not a golfer, but the food at the Hemlock Grill at the nearby and open-to-the-public Putterham golf course under new chef Alex Sáenz, formerly of the beloved and gone BISq in Cambridge, is really worth a visit. Dude slaps with his Nashville hot fried chicken sandwich, among other virtues. The room itself has some grit, a 19th hole for working-class golfers, and a nice patio.

Free parking for anyone means free parking - for anyone. If residents of the street don't want others using it, there's a remedy for that - apply to have your street declared resident-only parking. Or if you really want a monopoly on your own parking spot, try actually paying money for a private spot, which you're then free to protect from golf fans or anyone else.

If I'm already parked there, I don't care. If I'm not, I park a block or two away and curse them until I get home but also understand that I'm not entitled to public space that I don't personally pay for.

Too many cars is the problem. An individual having multiple cars expecting the public commons to deliver is a massive problem. Demanding public support of your hoarding fetish isn't the solution to anything.

Anyone who uses property in a manner authorized by the owners of the property (in this case we’re talking about a public street; the owners are the public, acting through their democratically elected government, who made the street available for parking) is not stealing in any moral, legal, ethical, or other sense.
Handing off vast tracts of public property to the automobile may be stupid, it may be bad policy, it may have woefully destructive systemic impact, but it isn’t “stealing”.
You aren’t wrong about the destructive impact of our automobile-centric society, but you would be taken more seriously and have more impact if you were to refrain from making statements that are ridiculous on the face.

Yet, the city explicitly allows it. Just because you don't approve it doesn't mean it's unethical or stealing. Get over yourself.
Talk to your city reps and get the parking regs changed. Better yet, run for office promising to ban all parking on the street. Let us know how it goes.

doesn't have resident permit parking anymore? In that case, never mind.

of resident only parking in JP, mostly around T stops and the Faulkner Hospital. I'm not sure how new requests for resident parking are handled these days but it can be a long process to get approval.

Maybe 5% of the streets are. All the roads around Stony Brook and along the 39 have been ignored by BTD.
I don't think BTD
initiates resident parking. The request comes from the residents of the street(s) and, at least a few years ago, the City liked to have about two thirds of the residents signing on to the request. I don't know how it works on DCR roads.
BTD abandoned the program
It's been on hiatus for years. They have stacks of petitions that they willfully ignore.

The complainant realizes who they're talking to, right? Also, cry me a river if you're living near enough to the CC to be impacted by parking issues-- how often do they encounter a parked car that isn't "from theah"?
What's really being said, essentially, "Please disrupt the parking for someone else, not us." Get over yourself. It's a sporting event. Talk to people who live near, or on, the Marathon route about what happens every year.

The advice to park in JP in the first box is from some golf oriented social media site. The 311 complaint is prompted by that park in JP suggestion, specifically in some areas that are in fact, not that near the Country Club.
But what is the basis?
But what is the basis for the 311 complaint, that the public is being advised to park legally on public streets? And what action is the complainant asking the city to take? To tell members of the public that they can’t park on a street with legal public parking?
Don't underestimate the grit of those golf fans
I know that area and can vouch that between car and country club will be uphill, both ways.

Warning the BMW/Mercedes crowd about the brazen car break-ins occurring in broad daylight on Fridays and weekends in the western portion of JP. They should know the risks of this free parking!

If I'm a resident on the marathon route free to spectate whereas this event requires spectators to shell out thousands of dollars.
In the marathon case residents get something for the inconvenience.

Think of it as an exciting spectacle
Point A: No one in Moss Hill parks on the street, so no one is losing "their" spot.
Point B: Think of it as an exciting spectacle and roll with it. I live near a Temple with a big parking lot. During the high holidays they do not have enough parking and people park all around my area in ways that would never fly any other time. And it's fine.

Everyone took their cars over to campus and we packed them in at $40-$50 each. I suspect the frats did the same.
Cool thing was that the Yankees Fans were savvy enough to drive the alley and ask people sitting in lawn chairs. No signs or obvious advertising needed.
