Two Brits arrive for a visit tomorrow
By adamg on Tue, 11/29/2022 - 1:43pm
They probably won't be visiting the Tea Party Museum or the Samuel Whittemore memorial, though. But like one of their grandparents, they will be greeted at Boston City Hall before riding off to Somerville (in a limo, no doubt, rather than the Green Line Extension) to visit the home of dozens of climate tech startups.

Grandparents, not parents.
The green line would actually almost make sense from a security and traffic perspective! just hop on board one of those test trains...
But then
You don't get to have 36 staties in a motorcade and collective overtime sitting there with their SUVs idling while the Brits are inside taking the tour
So hard to keep that family straight
Yes, of course. Fixed.
Dad visited Boston/Cambridge in 1986
Though he did not visit City Hall. His main brief was to commemorate Harvard's 350th anniversary. I remember because this coincided with my own first visit to Boston (I also did not visit City Hall).

Will they also be visiting
Will they also be visiting the Somerville Market Basket next door to Greentown, to pick up something for dinner?
It would be entertaining
To see them on the 111 on Thursday when they visit Chelsea
Oh no, it does not move me

It would be more entertaining
It would be more entertaining to see them take a Charles river tour in a double-decker bus.
On the Boston side...
With a gratuitous Storrow.
Goes to show how committed to egalitarianism
Mayor Wu really is, that she would use public resources to host a couple of agents of the monarchy who are the antipathy of merit, equality, or progress. Not cool, Mayor.
Who are here ...
To promote green energy and fighting climate change, which are also in her wheelhouse.
There Was That Guy From Vietnam Who Got 5 Masters at MIT....
Yet, somehow this guy is in line for a lifetime government job.
I hope they get tummy aches while they are here.
Getting 5 Masters at MIT does
Getting 5 Masters at MIT does not help the climate either. It's way too much mens without any manus.
By that logic
Cancel Thanksgiving and Christmas, m'kay?
Like the royals or not
but there's no denying that they are influential representatives of their government. Really, it's not much different than hosting a foreign ambassador or business leader, which are things that mayors do all the time.
Exactly. For no matter how
Exactly. For no matter how silly the idea of having a Queen might be to us, as Americans we must be gracious and considerate hosts.
Thanks, Detective Lieutenant
Hope someone's got eyes on Reggie Jackson, just in case
Don't worry
they've put famed tenor Enrico Pallazzo on the case.
TBH, I'm proud that we were selected.
Yeah, it will cost some money and slow some traffic, but I think it's great that our beautiful city gets to host these international dignitaries on a very worthwhile philanthropic visit. Also cool that President Biden will be here too, shortly after he spent his holidays elsewhere in our beautiful commonwealth. Proving once again the Spirit of Massachusetts is the Spirit of America!
Speaking of monarchy, when
Speaking of monarchy, when are we getting our elected school committee?
Yawn
I will always prefer a board of people who were appointed because they have good qualifications to be on such a board. Having an elected board full of people who are just using it as a stepping stone to higher office or who know very little about how to fix a school system is not an improvement.
Yes, that's a problem with
Yes, that's a problem with our elected city leaders, but nobody really uses school committees in that way.
Hope they’ve packed their macks and wellies
It’s going to be peak stormy weather for the City Hall Plaza event.
They’re here…
Came upstairs from the Arlington T about 2:45 to helicopters hovering and Arlington St to the corner of the Public Garden cleared and blocked by motorcycle cops. Very short motorcade then appeared and sped through, turning left on Boylston.
