Wentworth campus to get not one but two life-sciences buildings
A trio of developers say they will soon submit plans to replace a Wentworth Institute of Technology sports field at 500 Huntington Ave. with two buildings aimed at "innovative" life-sciences R&D.
The two buildings, which will have a total of 630,000 square feet of space, will also include room on the ground floor for retail use, the developers say, adding their proposal will also include a 10,000-square-foot pavilion to create "a new Huntington Avenue landmark for the [Wentworth] campus."
Wentworth actually won BPDA approval in 2013 for a general plan to let developers replace Sweeney Field, along with a parking lot and three small buildings with two new buildings, but the "letter of intent" filed this week by the Owens Companies, Waldwin Development and the Fallon Co. marks the first time a specific set of plans are on the way.
The developers say their project will "create an inviting and inclusive development aligned with Wentworth's future vision of hands-on, collaborative, career-focused education in design, engineering, management, science, and technology" as well as provide "a much-needed pedestrian connection through the site to improve neighborhood access" between the Green Line at MFA and the Orange Line and commuter rail at Ruggles.

What happens to the Wentworth athletes?
Or is the school dropping sports?
If you think the school
If you think the school actually cares about it’s sport programs, jokes on you. I do believe they are building a stadium esque field on top of the Parker St parking lot, because who needs parking.
Field is moving down Parker

Who needs sports and physical fitness when
You have life sciences?
I give Wentworth credit
I graduated from there with a 4 year degree and have always had a good job, that's been very well paying for the last 6 years. They also limit their tuition hikes relative to other colleges and I think they do so by their real estate strategies. And their coop program is great at preparing students for graduating with a job.
agree, but
it’s too bad Grindr stole their logo
???
Wentworth is building a brand new athletics field/facility/arena right across on Parker St.
So, I guess WiT can still have physical fitness and life sciences, amazing concept, right?
I guess open space is no
I guess open space is no longer a concern.
Obeisance to the Gods of Institutional Lusts
There is a civilized quality in the juxtaposition of a sports field for young adults across the street from a major encyclopedic art museum. Facing each other evokes a sense of the civilized side of ancient Greek culture where the wisdom of the body and the wisdom of the mind are both valued.
Despite not being a park this open space relieves the pressure of concrete in the area.
But in our version of civilization the lusty gods of status and prestige must be fed with their particular form of green, digitized ambrosia.
Where the worthies of Wentworth weave their wardfull wisdom for their neighbors, the weft and warp is a middle finger of woe.
A righteous rejoinder @Daan.
