This was not the Mandalorian they were looking for

Faux Boba Fett

Transit Police report officers dispatched to the Back Bay commuter-rail station around 6 p.m. on Friday on a report of "a person with a long rifle" found a guy dressed as Boba Fett holding a "replica" gun.

Officers conversed with the individual & the scene was safe.

The Boston Anime Convention is at the Hynes this weekend.

Not like random mass shootings aren't a common occurrence in this country.

I don't see the problem here. Someone "saw something" and called the police as instructed. The police checked it out and left. No one was arrested, detained, or forced out of the station. There was no mass panic.

Or another way to look at it: random mass shootings are way too routine. Everyone **should** be on edge. And from far away, things that look like guns are going to be perceived as guns.

Let's make it harder/impossible for civilians to have weapons that tend to be most useful to murder humans. Then maybe when mass shootings aren't a daily occurrence in the US, it'll be less likely for this costume-confusion story to merit any attention at all.

Or that there will be any huge in-person events coming up with a history of being targeted for mass-casualty mayhem.

You can go ask them what kind of gun that is. As much as I roll my eyes at the ridiculous level of panic over any and all guns in some areas, people have reason to be concerned.

Because just about every prop gun in Star Wars is a real gun with some plastic junk glued to it. It's not that crazy that someone would see one and think it was at least worth checking out.

I sincerely hope that the T cops explained to young Boba here the unwisdom of this course of action.

My kid and their friends were regulars at Anime Boston (though not cosplayers). A favorite memory is the time I picked them up at the Hines just as a Red Sox game had ended. The looks each group gave the other were priceless.

I was at the con with my kid this weekend - saw several Mandalorians, Glad things turned out ok - good thing he didn’t have a lightsaber or Space Force might have arrived.
