Man runs red light in Dorchester, is arrested for loaded gun and magazine he had, police say

Boston Police report officers who stopped a man for running a red light at Bowdoin Street and Geneva Avenue in Dorchester around 3:35 a.m. arrested him after noticing he was packing what turned out to be a gun loaded with 15 bullets.
Police say officers pulled Gary Whynter, 31, of Mattapan over on Harvard Street for the red-light violation:
Officers made contact with the occupants of the motor vehicle, and an officer observed the grip of a firearm on the driver’s person. Officers requested the driver to exit the vehicle, and the driver immediately attempted to reach for the vehicle’s gear shift in an attempt to flee. Officers were able to safely remove the driver from the vehicle, and recovered a firearm from his waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a Polymer 80 with 15 rounds in the magazine, and 9 rounds in a spare magazine. The other two occupants were promptly released from the scene.
Whynter was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and illegal possession of a large-capacity feeding device.
This is the second time in 1 1/2 years that Whynter has been arrested on gun charges. On Oct. 17, 2022, police arrested him on Washington Street near Glenarm Street in Dorchester after they say they found him with a loaded gun and a loaded magazine. However, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office dropped all the charges on March 9, 2023.

If I were to be charitable, it's that "everyone in Boston runs a red light".
Just watch a light cycle change at any intersection.

They were on to this guy and his collection, and just waited for him to do something they could pull him over for. The idea that police would waste time just enforcing traffic laws for the hell of it strains credulity.

I would have thought that if you were carrying something illegal, you'd not do anything that would give the cops a reason to pull you over. I guess that's why I shouldn't try to live a life of crime.

“We pulled him over for driving erratically and found a kilo of heroin in the car” is police report speak for “we don’t want to compromise our source who tipped us off that the delivery was happening tonight.
I was on
a jury a good while back on a trial for a guy driving on a Saturday night in Roxbury, in a car that screams "pull me over" because lights weren't functioning properly and inspection sticker expired... all the things you don't want to be doing while having a loaded semi-automatic gun in the glovie, loaded with one in the chamber.
The guy said it's his girlfriend's car, but it isn't her gun. He met a guy in a club who asked him for a lift.
He claims he left the guy alone in the car for a minute while he needed to run back inside the club. Dropped the guy off wherever he did and got pulled over afterward.
The lame-o excuse is that the guy he gave a ride to, whose name he doesn't know, must've left the gun in his glove compartment and forgot to take it with him.
The defendant's court-appointed incompetent lawyer trying to downplay the nature of the weapon by calling it a "pistola" was laughable. I don't recall the name of the gun but it was one that would get off many rounds and had a magazine. A pistola sounds like something a lady might carry in her purse.
Didn't take long for the jury to come back with the obvious finding.

You're right, you're not supposed to have something like that. And you know what happens if the police find you with one? You get arrested.
Oh, but you're trying to be subtle and say the law doesn't work. We have laws against murder and stabbing, too, yet people still get murdered and stabbed. Should we then repeal our homicide and A&B laws?
