Man charged with setting Mission Hill restaurant on fire

Boston Police report arresting Prasiddha Baruwal, 23, of Everett, on charges he broke into the Squealing Pig and set it on fire late Tuesday.
Video taken by a passerby showed a man inside the restaurant after all its windows had been smashed, a fire going and him moving a table into the fire, which went to two alarms after Boston firefighters responded.
Police say Baruwal, arrested around 8:30 this morning, was charged with arson of a commercial building, breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony and destruction of personal property.
Innocent, etc.

I'm guessing this scotches the theory that
he's some kind of professional criminal arsonist, given his thin history as little more than a college student. (With all caveats of innocence until proof of guilt, of course.)
Wonder what the motivation was?
Recently fired employee
He's a kitchen worker. He'd been working at the Boston location for more than a year and more recently at the P-Town location, from which he was fired.
Well ...
At least he targeted the Boston location and not the Provincetown one.
Yikes.
What could possibly be good
What could possibly be good about him setting a restaurant on fire, within a very thickly settled urban area?
It doesn't matter
She said what she said, but, I will say the collateral damage in Provincetown would've been much greater.
Who knows
And in P-Town more people out and about might have stopped him and/or called the FD sooner so more could have been saved.
It's pointless to speculate. Thankfully he's caught and no one was hurt.
Where did I say any fire was good?
My point is that it could have been much, much worse.
Ever been to Provincetown? In the summer?
Any fire like this is certainly bad anywhere, but not "almost guaranteed to burn down an entire city packed with people" bad.
Go to the Provincetown 4th of July Parade this week - half the parade is firefighting equipment of various specializations. That's how vulnerable the entire place is.
swirly is absolutely correct
Ptown there's a possibility the whole of commercial street going up, the streets are narrow, even narrower this time of year with cars parked on both sides
(And on a personal note, the Pig my favorite place to eat on all of Cape Cod).
This is what happens
When someone has nothing to lose.
The idea is to build a society in which everyone feels like they have something to lose.
Maybe, or there's the Occam's Razor argument,
which is that most criminals are goddamned idiots who never think their crimes through beyond how they get home afterward.
Ah yes
Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence.
Seems like
Many of us owe the owner an apology. This is a good lesson to slow roll the jump to conclusions before the facts are out.
