A person was shot shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday on Castlegate Road at Normandy Street. Injuries not considered life threatening. A gun was recovered at the scene.

...but I wonder how Boston has been able to maintain such an extraordinarily low murder rate compared to other cities. I'm sure this is is a topic that law enforcement and social scientists would be looking into, but is there any consensus? I'm especially curious whether our strong medical infrastructure and advances in emergency medicine have given us an advantage. Like, might "non-life-threatening injuries" be more lethal elsewhere? I know we have a serious crime problem, but how have we largely kept a lid on the deadly variety?

Castlegate Road was Boston's "New Jack City" back during the Crack epidemic. Funny how you don't hear much about Crack anymore...
