Kinda like the MBTA drivers who took the time to drive their burning bus down and around the block to a busyard and suffered injuries as a consequence.

Firefighters were not there as they were at a car crash call.

That's the worst choice destination for a mobile fire. I believe that's still the busiest station in the city, largely because of proximity to colleges, student housing, and hospitals.

Apparently it is protocol to dump the load as soon as possible if a driver sees things appearing to be on fire. Saving a $300k vehicle is their priority.

It's possible someone threw away a bum lithium battery rather than figuring it out on the City website.

In the pre-internet days I had a propane cylinder for a camp stove that still had a considerable load in it but the valve was kaput.

I called Coleman on their 800 number and asked how to best dispose it.

The customer service person thanked me and told me to take it to a Fire Department for proper disposal. In the late 80s these things apparently blew up several garbage trucks per year.

Still can't unimagine that. Crunch ... compact ... smash ... Boom!

Those Jakes are incredibly busy. Just the calls to places on Huntington Avenue keep them up all day and night.

More info from the Boston Fire Historical Website:
Engine 37 and Ladder 26 have a large response area covering the Fenway, Roxbury, South End and Back Bay areas of the city. The fire companies are known as the Huntington Avenue Express.

Engine 37 has often been the busiest engine company in the city on a yearly basis. The company responds to approximately 3900 incidents per year. Ladder 26 is also a very busy company, responding to approximately 3800 incidents per year.
