Haze lifts over Boston area, but smoke still rising from brush fires north of the city

Clearer skies, but with smoke still rising north of Boston

As promised in the morning by the National Weather Service, the smelly haze that settled in over the Boston area from brush fires along the North Shore lifted early this afternoon. But when Josh Bittker looked out of his Seaport window this afternoon, he could still see smoke rising from north of the city.

I've been working from home today and PurpleAir has had Chelsea at an AQI of over 60 all day long. Seems to be coming from the fires in Salem.

No. Probably not oh anti-cannabis friend.

In the woods there's plastic and trash in the underbrush (think wind blowing it). So some of this smoke is smoke from burning trash and plastic.

Right now (as of 815am) Chelsea has a AQI of almost 100 today and it smells like burning plastic. Not a campfire (which would signify a wood burn).

Yesterday's brushfire smoke smelled like a fireplace to me, but you're probably right about the plastics.
