Repeat perv charged with exposing himself to young tourist in historic downtown cemetery

MacDonald

A man who lists the Southampton Street shelter as his home address was ordered held without bail this week at his arraignment on a charge of exposing himself to a teenage girl in the Granary Burying Ground on Tremont Street in July, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Wayne MacDonald was formally charged in Boston Municipal Court with open and gross lewdness, subsequent offense, the DA's office reports. The state Sexual Offenders Registry Board shows he has convictions on that charge dating back to 1993, with convictions on four such charges in January, 2023, for which the DA's office says he was on probation until 2029.

Judge Joseph Griffin actually set bail at $500, but ordered MacDonald held until at least a Dec. 5 hearing on whether the latest arrest violates his probation.

According to the DA's office, the teen and her mother were visiting the cemetery next to the Park Street Church shortly before 1 p.m. on July 25, when MacDonald unzipped in front of the girl.

The daughter told her mother, who confronted the man across the street from the cemetery. The man denied any wrongdoing and walked away. The mother described the man as 55-plus, about 5’ 10”, wearing dark glasses, a blue shirt and a hat with “Boston” on the front, and carrying a green backpack.

Boston Police detectives secured video surveillance footage from area buildings and isolated images of the man and of the mother confronting him. Detectives sent a bulletin and officers in the Boston Police Sexual Offender Registry Unit identified the man as MacDonald. Detectives then sought an arrest warrant and MacDonald was taken into custody this week.

Innocent, etc.

Sex offenders who continue to offend should be barred from the MBTA and homeless shelters where they prey on their victims.
