Gunfire at a Roxbury traffic stop leaves BPD officer injured, suspect dead

DA says use of force was justified.
WCVB reports Boston Police say a traffic stop around 2:20 a.m. on Gerard Street, between Kemble and Allerton on the Roxbury side of Newmarket Square, ended with a man in the car opening fire on two officers, who returned fire. One of the officers was hit several times, but is expected to survive. The car sped off; but police found it a few blocks away, on George Street at Magazine, with the shooter, a man in his 30s, dead inside.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's office will review the incident.

This first thing that came to
This first thing that came to mind when I turned on the news this morning was to call my best friend whose daughter recently became the Boston Police officer since no info was yet available as to the officer's identity. Since it happened at the same time as her shift and in her surrounding vicinity, I went into panic mode. My friend is all upset but glad her daughter is ok. Protect our police officers and keep them safe.
Glad it wasn’t her and that
Glad it wasn’t her and that the officer will make it. It’s a hard job in a city where many have no respect for police. Would love to see the kind of prior record the gunman had.
Respect is Earned
Not demanded at gunpoint.
BPD has done and excellent job of getting this into their systems.
People hate and fear cops in places where they just don't get it. People won't call the cops where the cops are just another bunch of armed thugs looking for trouble.
Some how I don't feel there
Some how I don't feel there will be many protest over this...
Just sayin'
Hate to break it to you
There are few protests of shooting deaths of anyone. A few grab national news, most are just reported once and promptly forgotten.
Don’t be too sure
Remember when the local BLM collective shut down the Southeast Expressway a few years back? I read their manifesto, which included a list of “victims” of police violence. They included people killed by police returning fire. And let’s not forget the protests the last time BPD shot a guy to death, again after the deceased shot a cop, unprovoked.
Most people won’t protest, but some people are just crazy.
Remember when the cops
Remember when the cops protested in Boston back in the 80's?... They blocked 93 North and South of the city as well as the tunnels to East Boston.
And when the BLM protest did it the cops made sure to highly advertise all the people's names AND addresses on Facebook so the mob of forgetful haters could go harass the protesters long after the protest made its point.
Crazy exists on both sides of the blue shield.
So you think it’s wrong Kahrim is dead?
Since that’s what we’re talking about.
I did notice that you did not question my assertion that the Boston BLM were saying it was wrong for BPD to return fire, so at least you’ve got that going for you. I mean, that is what I said, my total contribution to the discussion.
And all you did was
And all you did was generalize.
I'm sure Commissioner Gross
I'm sure Commissioner Gross and a million other people are standing by BPD on this one. In fact, I am pretty confident.
Guy must've felt completely
Guy must've felt completely hopeless and desperate to do that. Police never know what they're walking into
Let's Review
For those who do not know the neighborhood, Gerard St is a heavy industrial area. It can be very lonely there at night.
TV report said this was a routine traffic stop, but let's frame this as being not all that far (a short walk) from the so-named "Methadone Mile" near Boston Medical Center. Speculation here, but police rarely stop a car just for driving normally on a street. There may have been some contributing factor -- yet to be reported -- that caused the officers to make that stop.
And, once stopped the car could be searched if there was a reason. That didn't happen because gun fire started from the stopped car, and of course that driver did not survive. You don't start firing at police unless you are doing something wrong.
The officers are fortunate, but the one with multiple gunshot wounds will have a long recovery road ahead.
STOP.
STOP.
Don’t make excuses for an almost cop killer. Fuck him. Lots of people battle mental heath issues without ever even coming close to doing what this monster did.

MassLive.com identifies him as the man shot to death and reports he had a long record.
MassLive.com identifies him as the man
...that the Globe (and its team of five professional journalists) identified as the man shot to death.
But we mustn't ever give credit to the original source if it's behind a paywall.
It is imperative that UHub readers be provided with recycled content and workarounds that allow them to avoid ever spend a few bucks on original journalism.
I link to Globe stuff all the time
Just this morning, in fact.
The reason I linked to the MassLive piece in this case was because they'd done research into the guy's criminal background, which I thought was interesting.
Update
I did link to the Globe this morning, but have rewritten the post to point to a statement by BPD on the issue.
