Boston City Council President Ed Flynn sent two proposed resolutions on Israel and Palestine to a committee for further study and hearings.

The council's committee of the whole - basically, the entire council - will now schedule hearings on a resolution by Councilor Michael Flaherty (at large) to support Israel and condemn Hamas and a separate one by Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson (Roxbury) calling for an immediate ceasefire in the region. The US Supreme Court today rejected an effort by an anti-Palestine group to force the MBTA to run ads saying whatever the hell it wanted to say about Palestinians - by rejecting the group's request for a hearing before the court. Read more.

WBUR reports the governor declined to sign a letter with other governors calling on President Obama to immediately suspend plans to allow up to 10,000 Syrian refugees into the US.

Ezra Schwartz, 18, of Sharon, was one of three people killed by a Palestinian with an Uzi in a West Bank attack today, Yeshiva World reports.

Schwartz was spending a year studying in an Israeli yeshiva. Several other American students at the school were injured in the attack. Ha'aretz reports a Palestinian man got out of a car in the Gush Etzion region around 4:30 p.m. and fired an Uzi at other cars; he then got back in the car, drove away and crashed the vehicle.

The family of a man killed by a Hezbollah rocket in northern Israel in 2006 says Iran and several Iranian banks owe it $300 million in damages for his death.

In a suit filed this week in US District Court in Boston, the family of David Lelchook say Hezbollah could never have undertaken a large rocket barrage against Israel that year without Iranian backing. Read more.

A federal appeals court this week upheld lower-court rulings that the MBTA can limit what it allows on ads on its buses and trains and in its stations.

The US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston rejected claims by a right-wing pro-Israel group that if the T allowed ads referring to Palestinians as "refugees" it also had to allow ads referring to them as "savages."

After battling a Palestinian-hating group for months over anti-Palestinian ads, the T is now drawing the ire of a pro-Palestinian group for taking down its anti-Israel ads a few days early.

Apparently, the people at Brandeis who decide these things haven't heard of Google and only decided not to give Ayaan Hirsi Ali an honorary degree after getting protests about the way she's described Islam as "a destructive, nihilistic cult of death."

Ali responded with a statement accusing the Jewish-founded university of turning its back on its own ideals:

For the second time in three months, a federal judge has said the company that manages advertising for the T did nothing to violate the First Amendment in rejecting an ad from a New Hampshire group that compares Palestinians to savages.

Only this time, Judge Nathaniel Gorton signaled he's getting a little sick of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, which sued the T a second time after the T accepted a compromise ad after rejecting its first ad, then rejected the group's last-minute "tweak" to that ad that made it more similar to the original ad. In an order released today, Gorton writes:
