Alleged gang member making a deposit

Last month, the US Attorney's office announced roundups of alleged members of the H Block and Mission Hill gangs.

The alleged associates of the H Block gang, based on the streets north of Franklin Park, were charged with the sort of gun- and drug-related offenses you'd expect. But their Mission Hill counterparts - based at the Mission Main and Annunciation Road projects - were charged with a different kind of crime with which to support their own violent warring: Heading out into wealthy suburbs and stealing large amounts of mail which they'd rifle for checks, so they could "wash" them with chemicals and make out checks in large amounts to themselves or accomplices. Update, 5:10 p.m.: BFD is asking police to shut Enneking Parkway.

Boston firefighters responded shortly after 4 p.m. to Stony Brook Reservation, between West Boundary Road and Enneking Parkway for a brush fire that consumed at least an acre.

Firefighters responded to the reservation on Saturday for a brush fire that erupted on the other side of the parkway, between Washington Street and Turtle Pond.

The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans by a developer to replace the last vestiges of Pizzeria Uno in Boston - its former corporate headquarters on the road to Millennium Park - with a two-building, five-story complex with 191 apartments. Read more.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court today rejected arguments that Boston Police officers doing a well being check on a man who never missed work should not have entered his house without a warrant, and so upheld the second-degree murder conviction of his son - whom officers found in the house along with his dead father. Vero Navarro of Hyde Park managed to capture just one of the ants, between her home's back door and its screen door, this evening.

Jamaica Plain, Roslindale and Hyde Park Facebook groups tonight are full of accounts of people and vehicles getting stuck in a mating frenzy of zillions of tiny flying ants, in those neighborhoods and West Roxbury and Dedham, too (Update: Cambridge and Somerville, too). Read more.

River Grille, which never quite clicked in West Roxbury the way it had in Hyde Park's Cleary Square, has closed at 1866 Centre St.. The space already has a banner up advertising a new place called Bread Thyme and promising "authentic Lebanese cuisine." Read more.

Boston Police report a guy has been looking for chain-wearing seniors getting off buses or trains in Hyde Park, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury, then following them and ripping the chains off their necks. Read more.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports that Mission on Fire, which replaced Sofia Italian Steakhouse, which replaced the Vintage steak place, which replaced Fontaine's and its neon waving chicken, has opened at 1430 VFW Parkway in West Roxbury. It promises "everything from tapas and artisanal pizzas to savory pastas and our signature rotisserie chicken" all with a "bold Latin influence."
