Challenger Campbell tops Yancey in low-vote preliminary

City returns shows first-time challenger Andrea Campbell besting long-serving City Councilor Charles Yancey 58-34 in District 4, which includes Dorchester, Mattapan and small sections of Jamaica Plain and Roslindale.
The two will face off in the final elections in November, where turnout might be a bit higher than today's 7%. Campbell got just 1,982 votes, compared to Yancey's 1,159.
In District 7, which covers Roxbury and which had similarly low turnout, incumbent Tito Jackson got 66% of the vote. He'll face off in November against Charles Clemons, who came in second with 18% of the vote. Perennial candidates Althea Garrison and Roy Owens got another chance to find a new office to run for next year.

I didn't vote for her but I hope she does well and doesn't hang around until she is old enough to collect social security.

I hope she will be though. Getting out there an voting in November will assure she does win.

Yancey and Campbell both won the preliminary. It remains to be seen who will win in the final election.
As far as Yancey's age, it's irrelevant. What is relevant is winning elections, which is what Yancey has been doing for many years.
Campbell certainly won with the flyers, knocking on doors, and phone calls. From what I saw, the lawn signs were about even.
Let's see if Yancey responds and what happens in the final election.

Stopped trying to win If you go by signage, mailings and campaign workers visiting your door, she is a lock to win.
Her signs are everywhere and she has campaign workers out in force, Yancey is invisible, so far anyway.

to be replaced. Yancey for the board of directors for the YMCA would be a better fit for him.

Councilor Campbell
This race is over. Campbell will only build more momentum through November. If this was a close margin, I'd say Yancey might pull it out in the end. But this is too steep a climb for him considering her resources and energy. Expect him to go scorched earth against her the next 8 weeks though.
Civic involvement and Boston City Council
What's problematical about Boston City Council is a lack of civic involvement that could be better using up to date technologies/software . The Hearings in Committees are too intimidating for most folks to present concerns.
