That's one thing I love about living in Winthrop. The town doesn't allow this space saver nonsense and if anyone were to put out a space-saver, the owner of the residence (either single or multi-family residence) will get cited by the town. Also, during snow emergencies the town bans all on street parking, but people can park at the town lots for free. It allows the roads to be cleared efficiently and quickly.

People and their space savers.....#feelings of self-entitlement in many instances.

People have to move their cars to city lots so the city can properly clear the streets. Clear streets = no need for space savers.

I'm against space savers and didn't use them in Dot until the end of last winter. I drive a 4WD And made my own spaces. Then peeps in 4WDs took those spaces and either stayed there or space saved. I didn't need the drama so I found a spot blocks away and saved it. It worked.

I'd love to see them banned but they'd have to be picked up daily.

How about a fine on unshoveled walks to pay for space saver enforcement? Or rede dictate traffic officers for s few days?

Yeah. Space savers are supposedly banned in Cambridge. Still see them all the time here. Entitlement cannot be legislated.

because there's no overnight parking on the street allowed. At all.

(Personally, I think they should relax that in the summer. But right now, it works just fine.)

you can call the PD and let them know and they've never once given my family or i problems with this.

there are also a number of private streets in arlington unless they've completely done away with that- where parking certainly is allowed.

Transplants do things like this all the time, when they move to a new area but don't fully understand all the little rules. Brighton is a very transient part of the city.

that there's some truth to the TV stereotype of Bostonians as selfish and dim thugs.

In the past, the mayors have wimped out, endoring spacesavers by making special cases in which spacesavers are OK. And then everyone ignores the special case conditions, and keeps doing the same thing anyway, all the time.

It's time to say "idiots spoiled it for everyone" and have an easy-to-understand "no spacesavers - there will be a big fine".

And anyone caught vandalizing cars is looking at thousands of dollars of damage, plus jail time.

I have been removing space savers as I pass them. A bunch of is in the neighborhood are pointing our wifi cams on the street to catch people, should be fun posting on youtube!

The vandal is the one responsible for the vandalism. Period. If we want to spread blame further back in the causal chain, let's include the car owner for even having a car.
