BC warns students it doesn't want to get all Dean Wormer on them during the Marathon, but it will if there's a repeat of last year's mayhem
While Boston University is urging students not to OD on borgs, Boston College is sending a sterner message to it students about their behavior during the Marathon - especially on the streets of Brighton and Newton.
In e-mail today, BC officials say:
Boston College and Boston Police received a significant number of complaints of community disturbances during last year’s Marathon. Based on last year’s issues and the alternative Mile 21 activities the University is providing, Boston Police is expected to have zero tolerance for disruptive behavior and underage drinking in the neighborhoods. It is critical that all students keep public roadways clear and be respectful of our neighbors who live close to campus, as well as their property. All on-campus students are strongly encouraged to enjoy the Marathon activities on campus. You will not be able to cross Commonwealth Avenue after 8:00 am.
Students living off-campus are responsible for the conduct and activities occurring at their residence at all times, including the conduct of guests, and will be held accountable for violations of the Student Code of Conduct, including creating community disturbances and enabling underage drinking. Therefore, students should not expect to go into the neighborhoods to engage in underage drinking or public drinking without consequence. ... [C]ongregating on rooftops, fire escapes and porches is prohibited. Violations may result in an arrest, court summons, and referral to the student conduct process.
Also, no borgs, period, BC warns: Students spotted carrying bottles larger than a liter can expect to have them confiscated. But even with smaller containers, don't get drunk and make an ass of yourself:
Violations may result in an arrest, court summons, and/or a referral to the student conduct process. We urge you to make safe choices so that vital medical and emergency resources can remain available for those running the marathon.

Crossing Comm Ave
Let me introduce you to the Kendall T station and the Mass Ave overpass.
Also the leader runners don't arrive until close to noon (with a few wheelchairs before) so I would assume some crossing might be allowed.
Now, Beacon Street west of Kenmore, that's harder!
Can't cross Comm Ave near BC
@Ari - are you confusing BC with BU? This is addressed to Boston College students, the college that is partially in Newton and all west of Cleveland Circle. No crossing Comm Ave in Newton, none.
you mean by car or by foot?
People cross the marathon route all over the place. You might have to break into a jog to not get in anyone's way, but it's normal.

You can definitely weed out students who will have addiction, whether it be functional or dysfunctional, rule their future and have power over money and educational degree no matter what walk of life they are come from.
