Three shot in Mattapan, one dead

Around 10:15 p.m. at 41 Hosmer St., between Blue Hill Avenue and Norfolk Street. Two victims found outside, one dead - a man in his 20s. One victim was found inside.

I heard like 7 shots by Talbot ave a few minutes ago. I think someone got killed. I stay by blue hill and Talbot ave and gun shots can be heard almost every other night. The sad part is a permanent police cruiser is parked on talbot and still they find ways to shoot. I never go out after dark

Like most folks here I don't usually comment on these posts because "what to say?" But honestly...this is nuts. The silence is nuts. The lack of vocal outrage is nuts. The fact that there are people in Boston who don't want to leave home after dark, that we have at least three fatal shootings in one night...? What the hell??

When you have a Mayor who was on WBZ last night placing blame for the Olympics fiasco on just about anyone other than his idiot ass ask yourself why certain neighborhoods in this city are war zones.

It's not like there was no violence before Walsh became mayor. Menino certainly could go on and on about his pet (non) projects.

You really think between Rick rolling and now ducking every possible reason why his administration was caught with their hands in the Olympic cookie jar shows Walsh's "utmost priority" is gun violence?
This is infuriating.
I seriously think our gun laws are broken and are in bad need of a truly non-biased overhaul. While I can't say for certain, I also feel a majority of the people involved are so out of desperation. We almost never get to see the final report on these investigations. How are we supposed to look for truly productive ways of reducing and eliminating this if records are not released (without paying some exorbitant fee)? There have been talks which look at gun control and gun rights. These two parties are at such odds that absolutely nothing gets done. The two arguments as I see them are:
1. Guns are bad and we should ban them for all but law enforcement
2. It's my right end of story
These two arguments completely leave out the people being terrorized in neighborhoods which maintain a constant level of conflict. With these two entirely polarized groups how can anything beneficial ever get done?
I myself am a licensed gun owner and can offer my own views to the two above points.
1. A complete ban on guns will do nothing. I say this since anyone can purchase and run a CNC machine to build their own untraceable guns. The metals necessary are widely available as are the CNC machines. It's even possible to buy a CNC entirely built for for personal firearm production, it's called the Ghostgunner.
2. It may be a right, but every person out there doesn't have the mental capacity to own a gun, nor should they be allowed to.
Mass has strengthened its gun
Mass has strengthened its gun laws several times over the last couple decades and gun violence has continued to climb in this state while declining nationwide. The problem isn't lawful gun-owners.
If only we were a Texas-sized state
Yes, legal gun owners are not the problem. Who says they are? But it's pretty easy to find a state within an hour's drive with laxer laws in which to buy guns.

Straw purchasing is already illegal and a federal offense.

Are inanimate objects. It's thugs with guns that are the problem - start locking them up instead of playing catch and release and the problem will disappear overnight. You could have CVS selling guns like bubblegum on every street corner, but there still wouldn't be a widespread gun violence problem if gangbangers knew they were guaranteed at least 10 years in the slammer if caught with an illegal firearm, with none if that cutesy illegal search/profiling/etc bullcrap that gets 99 out of 100 gun charges tossed.
Hardly
It seems hard to think that increased jail time for gun offense would stop many of the people. They already at looking at that much time or more for using the guns in any state yet the violence is non-stop. If anything else jail gives them a chance to form stronger alliances.

Unfortunately when people
Unfortunately when people call for "sensible gun policy" they generally mean doing something that affects the 100 million lawful gun owners that DIDN'T commit a crime last year and not the several thousand unlawful gun owners that did. We could start by making sure ALL felons in possession are prosecuted at the federal level where they are subject to mandatory minimums without parole and by increasing sentencing for violent offenders.

This is funny when minorities are the biggest target of the police. Not guns or drugs. Where do illegal guns come from I wonder maybe some of the 100 million registered gun owners are selling for profit. Where do guns in a community gun buy back program go? maybe they are recycled into the next crime ridden. community. Just a thought.

Buyback guns are melted down. Most guns used in crimes are stolen and a small number are obtained by straw purchasing which is already a federal offense.
The issue really is career criminals which are allowed to plead out of illegal possession charges. Felons are already federally prohibited persons when it comes to owning firearms yet they are almost never prosecuted for violating federal law when caught. Massacusetts' own Bartley Fox law with mandatory minimums for illegal possession is NEVER enforced.

It is depressing, infuriating
It is depressing, infuriating and mind blowing that so many people think killing someone is a reasonable thing to do. Shooting someone is the resort for people who aren't smart enough to use their brain or strong enough to use their fists.
