Just no: Boston does not have a neighborhood called Innovation Crossing, so stop that right now

And we're looking right at you, Art Papas. It's nice that your software company is growing fast and charging hard and adding employees like nobody's business at your spiffy new digs on Summer Street in the Financial District, but, no, Mr. Master of the Universe bro sir, that area is not being renamed Innovation Crossing. FiDi is bad enough.

There's NOT a neighborhood in Boston called "SoBo". Just a side note towards one specific individual.

SoBo is going to be the greatest neighborhood in Boston once the the SoBo Waterfront is developed.

"Innovation Crossing" - has a nice ring to it. Call me crazy but I like it!

and in the Lollipop Building for those of you of many summers who can remember that.

Between Five Guys, Al Capone's, Uno Due Go, Wendy's, Viga, B Good, Starbuck's Dunkin Donuts, Sebastian's, and many others, along with the great Falafel King all within 700 feet of this place, I would say the neighborhood should be renamed the Innovation Feed Lot.

And this from the man who brought you one of the most stupid names that I have ever heard for a company..."Bullhorn". More like bullsh*t.

It’s always funny when people try to force something—sometimes it works, but usually it floats into obscurity, like the push for SoWa back around 2000. Or, South Boston Waterfront (why they thought an overly-longish phrase would catch-on…) in order to keep that part from mentally detaching from Southie. They failed on both parts—everyone calls it the Seaport District, and nowadays, I have more and more conversations with people who think that South Boston begins below Reserved Channel.

My favorite was when the local government in Lynn floated the idea of renaming the city "Ocean Park" to escape the "Lynn, Lynn, city of sin" rhyme. So a couple of radio DJs promptly came up with "Ocean Park, Ocean Park, Don't get caught there after dark."

Don't say that around Roadman and Swirly. They'll get the federales on you.

to New England Telephone then. Or buy your groceries at the First National.

Oh, it's ok for them to change their names, because they're private businesses. But when the government attempts to eliminate an outdated and pointless route designation in favor of a consistent one, it's "OMG - How DARE they do that."

It's a Federal highway (Interstate 95) AND a Massachusetts State highway (128). Why they can't put the white square 128 on the signs is beyond me.

( the Route-128 designation is neither outdated nor pointless )

First, the name of a train station and a highway route designation are apples and oranges.

Second, the exit numbers and mileposts along I-95/128 between Canton and Peabody currently reflect the I-95 designation, and not 128. Plus, unlike every other route overlap in the country, the 128 designation does not divert to another road at the Canton end, but just dead ends. Because of this, retaining the 128 designation only serves to confuse people.

These points are HUGE indications that retaining the 128 designation is pointless and outdated. But let's continue with our "get off my lawn" thinking instead of being progressive and finally accepting a change that's been in place for over forty years.

Other states routinely redesignate and discontinue route numbers, so it's not like it would be the end of the world if 128 went wawy for good south of Peabody.

I-95 is a leg that goes south to Rhode Island, and there's another I-95 leg that goes north to New Hampshire. Regardless of how you label them, that is how many people know and navigate the three highways.

My teachers taught me that Boston was called "The Hub" because it was like the center of a wheel with spokes running off in every direction. The two I-95's are merely spokes, but Route-128 is the wheel itself.

As dangerous by day as it is in the dark!

Disclaimer - I grew up in Lynn as a kid, but managed to escape from there in 1990.

It's all SoBo!

SoBo West Side
SoBo East Side
SoBo Waterfront
SoBo Broadway Village

City Point, Southie, Lower End, Dorchester Heights....those names are dead.

I've lived in Southie for almost 5 years now and have literally never heard anyone refer to it as Sobo...I give you credit for being unique, but your starting to force an abbreviation that I assure you will never stick.

Haha. Funny. However, I live in City Point. Keep forcing it SoBro.

It's maybe the only such abbreviation that took hold around here, mainly because there was no earlier name for the Harrison Ave-Thayer St area. Now you have SoWa First Fridays, SoWa Art Walk, SoWa Open Market, SoWa Farmers' Market, and so on. Anyone interested in the local art scene knows this place well.

..God, that was awful. Next, someone will rename Somerville "Somo" or "The Hipster District."

THE LADDER DISTRICT.

Yeah, that caught on.

Remember when Downtown Crossing had a bad rep and the realtors kept referring to Midtown? Everyone was like "Where?" .

Some people......

Two syllables, six letters...too long. We're now officially 'BO'.

Acquaintance #2:

'BOMA'

I remember a Boston Sunday Globe cover story that labeled South Street as Boston's "Fax District", but I can't find it in the Globe archives. Anyone else remember this? It was probably in the 90s.

How far are any of the aforementioned neighborhoods from Newstead Montegrade?

I mean, it would currently seem that the former Downtown Crossing stop is now Vivitrol Station... (ugh)

I'm a bit bummed that people don't consider Seaport as Southie. Postal service sure does!
