Pernell Banks came across a car flipped on its side at the ramp down into the northbound tunnel near Rowes Wharf shortly before 3 p.m.

It keeps happening because they give a drivers license to anyone who wants one and they won't take it away even if you prove you are incapable of safely operating a motor vehicle. Case in point, this moron who flipped their car will not lose their license.

Have all of the recent flips been of SUVs? If so, that partially answers the question. They are not the most stable of vehicles.

Yes, if there were cars getting flipped EVERY MONTH FOR DECADES at this location, then the traffic engineers would probably be at fault. If cars are getting flipped only once in a blue moon, then it's fair to blame only the drivers.

Driving recklessly is treated as a god-given right in this region. Cars are getting flipped far more than a blue moon yet its treated with crickets or "oh well what can you do."

than 30. As every politician in Massachusetts knows, that is the case in nearly every instance of speeding within Boston.
one of my favorite intersections
coming off the bridge from seaport, the far right lane is right turn only on atlantic ave but drivers frequently go straight across two lanes of traffic and duck down the entrance ramp. looks like this poor soul tried to do the same only they hit the concrete curb and flipped it.
couldn't happen to a nicer guy
I only drive to work sometimes (work just over summer st bridge) but this happens pretty much every time I take that way home. The right most lane can ONLY turn right on Atlantic, the middle lane can turn right on Atlantic or turn into the tunnel, the left lane can go straight or turn into the tunnel. Every time, someone in the right most lane tries to bully their way in, almost causing an accident and honking their horn at you like you're at fault. It's actually worse outside of rush hour because there's less congestion and they can drive faster. Don't feel bad for this guy - hope he gets multiple tickets.

when the tunnel is full of cars and the right lane drivers block atlantic ave trying to get down the tunnel. based on the photo the staties claim that real estate, we could fund a new MBTA with the tickets they could right at the intersection every day.

My bike fell over this morning, but I didn't need to call the police to deal with it nor did it shut down a road. When will we learn that (with a few exceptions) single occupancy cars do not belong in cities?

People bike in cold rainy
People bike in cold rainy weather in cities all over the world. All it takes is proper gear and not being lazy. Also we have a subway.
This site will be full of stories of moronic drivers on friday, even more so than usual. Its just a matter of how many morons drive onto flooded streets and waste resources by needing to be rescued. Or maybe someone will drive into a storefront again. Who knows. The only certainty is that drivers will continue to be a huge danger to everyone and a huge drain on resources.

Also, GoreTex is a thing. My cousin is a lineman in the Pacific Northwest and he and I tip each other off to good sales on weather resistant clothing. He somehow manages to find plenty of stuff to do his job comfortably, and for more than the hour at a time that I spend on my bike.
So do the guys building stuff near my office through all sorts of winter weather.
I highly recommend that those about to persevere in the elements check out Work-N-Gear and any number of other places on line that cater to hunters and outdoor workers. The prices are way better than places that cater to cycling or running folk.

You asked for me to get back to you, so here I am. I've been on my bike three times today for a total of 45 minutes. My waterproof outer layers did their job and I showed up where I was going nice and dry. Managing to sneak in a bit of cardio during your commute is always nice.

I was lucky enough that the wind was mostly at my back, so I actually felt faster than normal. The crosswinds going through a few intersections were a bit intense though, but I took them slowly and carefully.

My husband was on his bike and came across this. Not noted is that there was an 18 wheeler in front of this bozo and one behind him. Our thought was that he tried to buffalo in from the far right lane and got clipped . One of many horrible intersections down town.

Blue Hill Ave above Columbia Rd and practically any street around South Station would get my votes for such cameras. Too many psychos behind the wheel.

Human Drivers will never be so bad that I think it is justifiable to give ticketing powers to a for-profit private company that doesn't have to disclose anything about their business or equipment maintenance practices, and can't be compelled to show up in court.
I also don't think that the goal of traffic enforcement should be revenue generation, it should be maintaining the public safety. Cameras do nothing to prevent bad driving, they simply issue tickets after the fact. Cameras actually increase accident rates at monitored intersections.
How bad would it need to get to justify cameras?
How many more Americans need to die from reckless driving? 30,000? 40,000? 50,000?
How can you maintain public safety if there isn't enough incentive to stop motorists from breaking the law? We do not have enough BPD traffic enforcement to curb bad driving and people aren't going to suddenly stop breaking the law if there is nothing incentivizing them to do so.
These are just weak talking points that come up from motorists that don't want to be held accountable for bad driving. Meaningless to say that it shouldn't be a revenue generator, its just a by-product of enforcement. And you are telling me that getting a ticket doesn't teach people lessons? So why have parking tickets then? And if people are rear-ending eachother because of a camera, well again thats on the driver for going too fast and slamming on the brakes to avoid punishment.
