Indian restaurant on Centre Street in JP moving to Forest Hills - a couple doors down from another Indian restaurant

Steve Garfield reports that Bukhara Indian Bistro, currently on Centre Street at Burroughs Street, is moving to 3698 Washington St., across from the Forest Hills T stop, on April 1.

The location, once home to the Tonic bar and, briefly, the Grass Fed burger place, is right down from Tikki Masala, whose owners risked opening in 2014, at the height of the gridlocking of Forest Hills due to the Arborway reconstruction.

Both places are garbage; you want good Indian food you go to Punjabi Dhaba. Period.

but it's not really convenient to get takeout/delivery from a place in Inman Square if you live in Jamaica Plain, so I don't really think it's a relevant option here.

Don’t forget the raft of good Nepali places: Himalayan Bistro In West Rox is excellent, as is Masala in Teele, and Kabob and Curry in Ball Sq. An embarrassment of buffet riches!

I've been to quite a few Indian buffets around here and I think Bukhara is one of the better ones.

It's certainly no Shanti in Roslindale or Dorchester locations. The Kebab Factory in Somerville outside Harvard is also better. I could go on....

Shanti in Roslindale stopped offering lunch service awhile ago.

Fortunately, there's still Himalayan Bistro in West Roxbury.

We went a couple of times and both times had to ask if they were putting more food out, annoying to say the least. We stopped going because it was not that great either.

Why is Bukhara moving from the most prime of locations on Centre Street? Rent increase? Forced out by landlord? What is it about that stretch of Washington Street that attracts restaurants? It's like there is some kind of restaurant gravity or some force that is irresistible. But the source of the gravity is a black hole that devours the restaurants.

Rent is expensive on Centre Street, and cheaper on Washington Street, so restaurants think they can move to Washington and save money. Too bad that Forest Hills is such a disaster area for foot/bike traffic - I imagine it's hard to keep up the same amount of business there compared to Centre.

Rent is probably the reason, but their delivery area is gonna be similar, and I wonder how much of the business for any Indian restaurant around here is delivery/takeout.

Agreed. Who's jurisdiction is it to get rid of the huge barrier blocking off the sidewalk with construction barrels and other makeshift blockades on what was supposed to be a finished sidewalk right next to the opening where all the construction is going on where the parking lot used to be? They started working on that sidewalk but then stopped in front of several stores in that stretch. Was that part of the Casey Arborway project, or is it MBTA property, or was the mess caused by the demolition of the DiMeo construction crew working on another warehouse where the parking lot used to be? Those orange construction barrels have been regularly used to stash drugs by the dealers and homeless who like to hang out down there. Please is disgusting and dangerous to try to traverse.

I never liked bukhara's food and they had some bad public health issues twice where they had to close .i have been going to India Quality for almost 40 yrs and its so fantastic and their prices have barely risen.

Forrest Hills people will have better access to bad Indian food now. JP people can always driver there anyway.
