Something big could be brewing at the Pru

Boston Restaurant Talk reports that Tree House Brewing Co. is looking to open a brewery AND a distillery at the Prudential Center. With a tasting room, of course. The Boston Licensing Board considers the applications (beer and spirits require separate licenses) at a hearing on Wednesday.

Nightshift and Lord Hobo both grew quickly with lots of devoted fans but their fortunes have changed dramatically and both have merged with others. Trillium is still independent but Treehouse seems to replaced it as the brewer people lust over.

It will be interesting if Treehouse manages to keep up their status or if they follow Nightshift in a few years and buy/merge with others.

Personally, I used to really enjoy craft beers and trying all the new local breweries but have cut back almost entirely. It just became so expensive for the amount of enjoyment.

I haven't been to Prudential Center since Eataly replaced the food court. Now even Barnes and Noble has been closed, so there's nothing there for me.

That's perfect for Treehouse, and I do not mean that as a compliment. Treehouse's "brewery" in Deerfield is in a former corporate campus. The entrance is a standard corporate foyer, the main taproom is the old company cafeteria, and the entire experience is creepy and weird.

Treehouse Deerfield is such a strange place. Blows my mind that people travel hours to get to a soulless corporate office, and I live in the area. Between the snobbery and the 2-beer pour limit... I don't get it.

That said, they have a really spectacular concert setup out back, I had the chance to see 2 shows there this summer and the sound and setup were great - much better than I anticipated.

I started my career at a time when those pseudogreenhouse things were all the rage. I find it quirky and charming and nostalgic - and a great reuse of the space. None of my workplaces ever had walls of beer cans, though. I met up with my husband after biking from North Adams and he already had a pizza and a draft ready. Seems to be very popular. We don't drive hours to get there, though - it is usually a stop on the way home.

If you have been at concerts outdoors there, it works fabulously well. We had a thunderstorm delay and they efficiently assigned doors to enter according to wristband color and got everyone in before the scenes of atmospheric violence. After the concert, the shuttles got us back within a short distance of our soulless hotel.

Way better than the incompetently dangerous shitshow at Cisco in Portsmouth where they refused to let people into the building and told people to walk to their cars up to a mile away when there was very little time before they sky exploded.
