Roslindale breakfast/lunch place would expand to dinner if it gets a liquor license - but not into the space a neighboring bar is leaving

Harry's All American, 1420 Centre St. in Roslindale, formally asked the Boston Licensing Board today for one of the 02131-specific alcohol licenses it has to dole out, both because customers keep asking for adult accompaniments for their meals and so it can expand into dinner service.

Trish Farnsworth, attorney for owner Edneia Viera, however, said the proposal would be for the current Harry's space; the restaurant has no plans to expand into space being vacated by the neighboring Kelleher's Bar and Grille, which is selling its liquor license to a private club in the Hancock Building. She added Viera, at the request of her landlord, is seeking a beer-and-wine license, rather than an all alcohol license.

Aides to city councilors Benjamin Weber (West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain) and Enrique Pepén (Roslindale, Hyde Park, Mattapan) both supported the request.

One neighbor opposed. He cited concerns about trash and parking, but also management of the restaurant. He said he used to eat there regularly but said on some visits, they were out of French fries. And, if you can imagine, they switched from Coke to Pepsi.

The board normally considers license requests the day after hearings. However, because of the volume of alcohol-license requests in recent months, due to the legislature's decision to give Boston more licenses, the board is withholding any votes on new alcohol licenses until it can consider all of them at once, broken down by Zip codes. Most of the new licenses are restricted to 13 specific Zip codes and, once granted, are permanently tied to those Zip codes.

Harry's is a quality spot. Hope they get approved.

Is this breakfast place any good?

As for the request, if only one neighbor is complaining about the trash and traffic, it's probably trifling concerns. I'm not an neighbor, and I've only been by this place when it's closed, so whatever. Kind of sad to see Kelleher's go. The missus made us go there for Mother's Day in recent years. It was a good spot, and I was just there for the food.
