The MBTA says it's once again running trolleys north of North Station, even as the National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Transit Administration and the state Department of Public Utilities continue to investigate how the front wheels of one trolley came off the tracks Tuesday afternoon, sending six passengers to the hospital. The MBTA reports this morning it is running shuttle buses along the Union Square and Medford/Tufts branches of the Green Line Extension as it continues to investigate yesterday afternoon's derailment near Lechmere that sent six people to the hospital.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced it has sent a team of investigators to Cambridge to also try to figure out what failed and made the front wheels of a trolley slip off the rails.

The Cambridge Fire Department reports several people suffered non-life-threatening injuries when a trolley came off the tracks near 10 Morgan Ave.

At 9:49 a.m., the MBTA reported delays on the Green Line Extension between East Somerville and Gilman Square as workers went into Officer Mike mode and escorted some baby ducks off the tracks.

The day on the brand new Green Line Extension started bright and early and full of buses: The MBTA announced at 5 a.m. it couldn't run trains on the tracks, not because they were out of gauge again but because the signals weren't working near East Somerville. But the bustitution only lasted until 5:17 a.m., when the T updated those darn signals were signaling again.

The MBTA reports it's started running trolleys to and from Union Square again, but that service on the stubbier end of the Green Line Extension remains slow because of a signal issue near Lechmere.

The MBTA said yesterday it's identified the overhead power-line issues that have led to a recent spate of dead trolleys from the new Green Line Extension to the ancient tracks near Copley and on Beacon Street. The T also said it's working to keep them from happening again. Read more.

WBZ reports that well over half the tracks on the Green Line Extension will have to be rebuilt - and that GM Phil Eng says previous management knew about the problem as early as 2021, but decided not to stop the already frequently delayed construction to fix the problem.

The Globe reports on new wicked slooooow zones on the Green Line Extension, in particular in spots where the rails have gotten slightly closer to each other, an issue that left at least one expert with 40 years of experience scratching his head because rails in use generally widen in distance, not narrow.

Four construction firms that teamed up to build the Green Line Extension say the company that designed key components of the new trolley line screwed up to the tune of more than $35 million in cost overruns, and they are demanding payment, in a suit filed today in Suffolk Superior Court. MassDOT announced today it's holding off shutting down the Union Square branch of the Green Line Extension until at least September after realizing that starting a six-week shutdown right after it shut the Sumner Tunnel without consulting with local officials about possible workarounds was kind of stupid. The MBTA announced today that the Green Line Extension will be shut between Lechmere and Union Square for six weeks starting July 18, not because there's anything wrong with the tracks this time, but so MassDOT can make repairs to the Squires Bridge, over which McGrath Highway crosses the tracks near Union Square. The MBTA reports a "power problem" has knocked out the newest part of the Green Line, between Medford/Tufts and Lechmere, and says riders should consider taking the 80 bus instead.

The MBTA reports that the Green Line Extension Community Path for pedestrians and bicyclists that runs along the newest part of the Green Line in Somerville will officially open to the public tomorrow. Read more.

WBUR updates us on the latest round of MBTA repair shutdowns, which include shutting down the brand-spanking-new Green Line Extension for the first two weekends in June, because it turns out the T started running trains on it even though it wasn't completely done. The work involves various stuff along the tracks, not the still unopened community path in Somerville.
