WGBH to open Dorchester bureau
By adamg on Sat, 04/01/2017 - 10:26am
Current reports WGBH will open an office in the Fields Corner headquarters of the Association of Independents in Radio. Initially, the station will rotate one reporter there every three weeks, but plans to hire a fulltime Dorchester correspondent. It will also be working with the Dorchester Reporter.

Little Vietnam??
In the linked article from Current, it states
As a resident of Fields corner for 40+ years, I can tell you that no one I know calls it "Little Vietnam". This includes my Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese neighbors. Not surprisingly we call it Fields Corner.
Let's see...
Let's see...
I leave SoBo, get to Midtown, and head south on Dorch Ave... soon I get to "the corner of two major intersections". Sounds like Little Vietnam to me!
Dorchester is scary!
No French guests for 'GBH!
A decade ago Margery Egan
A decade ago Margery Egan actually set foot in Dorchester one afternoon to write about the women's group at the gun club. I can't imagine WGBH's pearl clutching today about the same story.
Never mind her, what about Emily Rooney?
Dorchester frightens Emily Rooney - from 2010.
BPL
WGBH also opened a bureau inside the Boston Public Library last year.
I though they were debuting in Roslindale Square
on April 1st?
Northwest Boston?
I have never, ever, heard anyone use that phrase to describe Brighton.
One of several clues in that story ...
That the writer is not from around here. She also described Springfield as being "near the Connecticut border," which, while as technically true as saying Brighton is "northwest Boston," is not something somebody from around here would ever say.
But aside from that, it's an interesting story. The Globe never much cared about the neighborhood it was surrounded by, which is a shame, because, with 100,000 or so residents, there are a lot of stories there.
Reporting
The article reads like a sloppy rewrite of a Press Release. Journalism at its finest.
Looking forward to seeing the
Looking forward to seeing the coverage that comes from this! Fields Corner / Dorchester is a great place to launch this initiative , hopefully it is successful and gets replicated in more areas as well!
Reporter
And the Dorchester reporter will suck air out of bureau reporting on 12 people, 12 initiatives and nobody will be able to afford it here any more. Stinks.
