loud noises
One of my cats hates thunderstorms and the other one hates fireworks. It's been a tough week or so around here.
I can sort of see that.
My pet Congo African Grey Parrot, Aziza, is somewhat sensitive to loud noises like that, too.

My cat is a weirdo
She hears thunder or firework noises and starts looking for the show.
Only extreme thunder directly overhead will even slightly unnerve her to the point where she seeks humans and gets into the most interior spaces of the house.
Every other cat I've served has headed under the bed.

Can it please stop now? It's been going on nightly since April, at least, but last night was truly the main event. I watched segments of the TV concert while my neighborhood blew up outside in all directions, setting off car and home alarms and barking dogs. Went out on my porch occasionally to watch them and make sure that my roof or my neighbors' rooves hadn't caught fire. Went on into the wee hours.
The fire trucks outside my bedroom (false alarm across the street) at 3:30am were the icing on the cake. Enough.
What exactly did the mayor's fireworks task force do?
The fireworks started before dark & were still going on after 2:00 a.m. It has never been that bad before. I know it was the 4th, but it wasn't fun, and they were so close to houses that it was scary.
Did the police respond to any calls? They do not seem to have responded to any in my neighborhood.
Seriously, did that task force do anything at all? (Maybe I misunderstood and they were tasked with distributing fireworks across the city?)

I hate July 4th like the next guy, but Dot was LIT to hell and back last night. Without a doubt, more gunpowder was set alight last night than in the entire revolution. Now why don’t all you fucking adult babies do something with your lives moving forward other than this display of infantile regression? Bake a cake. Build a bird house. Watch your goddamed Netflix.

It's disgusting how people can be so willfully ignorant and insensitive towards others. They should realize that fireworks can cause a great deal of damage, to others, and to the users themselves. People have lost eyes, and even digits as a result.

Why did this 3 AM firework tradition start?
My East Boston neighborhood was still ablaze at 3:30 PM. It's been like this for a number of years now for the months leading up to July 4. What started this dead of night fireworks tradition? Shouldn't they stop at 11 PM or so? Apparently the people who do it don't work (like I said, it has gone on in years prior to the pandemic), if they are constantly up all night until 5 AM. It's pure spite, pure inconsideration and it's pure selfishness. They don't care about people who have to get up to work, the elderly, people with frightened pets, etc. I would say "how do the people setting off these fireworks sleep at night", except they don't.
The A-holes next door to me fired off at 2:00AM
so I retaliated by firing up the lawn mower at 9:00. I had planned to wait until Sunday, but they inspired me to get out there and work. The rest of the neighbors are generally up and out on Saturday, because they don't get piss drunk every weekend.

My neighborhood was a steady drumbeat from before 8 PM until after midnight, then continued with occasional gaps of a minute until I finally drifted off after 2:30.
...then wakened by a very large shell exploding at 4:30 AM! That was through closed window, AC on constant (thanks for making me waste electricity - was nice enough weather to sleep with windows open - and ambient noise setting on the alarm clock-radio. Large enough to wake me up (and I can sleep through anything, normally) and wake the stressed-out dog and cat.
I was jolted out of bed at 4
I was jolted out of bed at 4 and 5 and again at 6... I purposefully stayed out late watching the moon and sitting on the beach wall etc just kind of waiting out the displays. It was actually kind of interesting sitting on the beach and seeing the arch of fireworks across all the cities.
So I stayed out until 11 then stayed up until 1am editing pictures through all the noise and climbed into bed by 2am. Well past my normal bedtime but I figured things should be settled by 2am and to not get angry with fireworks at 10pm because it was July 4th after all. So when the 4am massive explosions went off I was very mad. The 5am ones didn't help much. Why someone would think that was ok is beyond me.

Yes, Boston was the only city in the ENTIRE COUNTRY that had lots of fireworks last night. I am so glad we have somebody like you who is constantly scanning all news media everywhere and was able to provide proof that of all of America's hundreds of cities only one had a lot of fireworks going off.

In Wolcott Square HP, there was an entire show of fireworks that was actually good that was done from Meigs Field. I am told that they do it every year and clean up their mess.
Clean air report: hosed
I get a daily air-quality report in my email. Ever since the pandemic started, it has reported good/clean every day -- an unbroken string of good news which I'd never seen before -- and which I'm guessing is due to reduced air pollution, in turn due to reduced traffic during this crisis.
Early this morning, for the first time since early March, I received a "special alert" for intense particulates in the air, warning that it was a danger for people with breathing issues (which I assume means asthmatics, many elderly, people suffering from Covid-19, etc.)
Why do you suppose this change all of a sudden? Could it be related to all the crap those fireworks/rockets threw into the air all night?
Just one more present from the inconsiderate and brainless to the rest of us.
The top of the hill on my
The top of the hill on my street was a constant fog bank of fireworks smoke and I even got hit by one of the sparklers that didn't go off. I retreated to my covered porch after that. So I'm not surprised air quality was bad this morning.
