Mattapan could get Domino's into the wee hours
Update: Approved.
The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let the Domino's at 1514 Blue Hill Ave. extend its closing time to 2 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday - with delivery only via car and payment only by credit card.
At a hearing today, nobody spoke against the idea of extending the closing time from the current midnight, which the franchise owner said would let it better meet demand, especially from third-shift workers and first responder who are up and hungry at 2 a.m.
Under the pizza-maker's proposal, deliverers would have to use their own cars - no scooter or bike deliveries allowed. Also, the place's doors would be locked promptly at midnight, so post-midnight orders would have to be made by phone or online.
What if somebody showed up and started banging at the door demanding to be let in to order a pie? Domino's licensing consultant John Mohan said such insistent pizza seekers would be told: "Go to your car and call us, go home and we'll deliver it to you."
Also, all payments for the later deliveries would have to be made via credit card; no cash accepted.

Why no bike or scooter deliveries?
Those are much more environmentally friendly, and quieter, than cars.

Probably
Probably the same reason why its credit card only.
So the drivers don't get jacked.
Easier to get away in a car than it is on a bike or scooter.
Some of those delivery
Some of those delivery scooters that we've seen everywhere lately don't seem so environmentally friendly.
They are?
Most delivery scooters I see are on their last leg, noisy and spewing fumes everywhere. I'll take a quiet car any day.
Scooters are noisy and
Scooters are noisy and disruptive in the wee hours.
isn’t refusing cash illegal in MA?
“ No retail establishment offering goods and services for sale shall discriminate against a cash buyer” sure sounds like it applies to late pizza
How many delivery restaurants
How many delivery restaurants let you order without providing a credit card so you can pay cash to the driver? Is that even a thing any more?
For that matter, how many restaurants still do their own deliveries, rather than making you order through a third party website which charges big fees?
You can buy with cash.
You can buy with cash. But you're not entitled to delivery.
