311 complaint of the day: Screeching steam on Kneeland Street

A concerned resident filed a 311 complaint tonight about the unusually loud noise coming from the Vicinity Energy steam plant on Kneeland Street in Chinatown:

Very loud screeching sound coming from Vicinity Steam plant. Started around 9am yesterday and today. Still going on now.

Why does that place often do weird stuff that ain't right and safe? Yeah I'm gonna go with my instincts.

Vicinity might be ramping up their operations for fall / winter.  There have been some steam leaks in places downtown where I have not seen them in a while. Could be related.

That being said, living near a steam power plant does not always mean quiet enjoyment.

Especially disquieting if you're nearby when a steam pressure safety valve trips.

I got a video during one of the sloppy winter storms in the pre-pandemic era where a steam leak plus a giant slushy puddle on Tremont (near the old burying ground) created a rather Yellowstone worthy volcanic model.
