A concerned resident filed a 311 complaint tonight about the unusually loud noise coming from the Vicinity Energy steam plant on Kneeland Street in Chinatown:

Why does that place often do weird stuff that ain't right and safe? Yeah I'm gonna go with my instincts.

Vicinity might be ramping up their operations for fall / winter.  There have been some steam leaks in places downtown where I have not seen them in a while. Could be related.

That being said, living near a steam power plant does not always mean quiet enjoyment.

Especially disquieting if you're nearby when a steam pressure safety valve trips.

I got a video during one of the sloppy winter storms in the pre-pandemic era where a steam leak plus a giant slushy puddle on Tremont (near the old burying ground) created a rather Yellowstone worthy volcanic model.

Screeching Steam were a great band , saw in 86 at the Ratt
