And while we're at it, why not apply the bottle bill to water (including "Vitamin Water", a division of Coke with more sugar than Coke), iced tea, "fruit drink" with 10% fruit juice, etc. In fact, why is any single serving beverage container exempt? Why not coffee cups, for that matter? If you don't want to pay the .05, then bring your own cup to be filled. I see way more water bottle and coffee cup litter than soda or beer these days.

From what I've heard the original bottle bill didn't cover water bottles because people just didn't drink much bottled water when it was passed. It was mostly beer and soft drinks that were a problem.

I sometimes see T employees cleaning up trains or stations when it isn't their job. I make a point to thank them.

Rats
The rats system wide are abundant. I have had them run over my foot at Porter once, and Braintree as well. They are nasty creatures with disease.
Don't forget those tiny black mice
Don't forget those tiny black mice at Park Street under. There are many of them and they have been there for years. I have never seen that particular type of mouse anywhere else. They must be some sort of mutant breed.
I acctually haven't seen rats on the T
I have seen these little guys running around though:

Only time I've seen rats is in Back Bay / Fenway, Allston, and Haymarket (the places, not the T stops)
Kenmore the cat
I've seen these mice down at Kenmore. I saw one digging in some sand on the tracks. Every time a train was coming, it would run and hide in some hole under the rail.
No wonder Kenmore the cat was living down there.

I remember seeing them all over Park Street station and State Street station as well. But recently I've been looking for them and haven't seen any. Kinda miss them.
Haven't seen any rats in the T but yes, Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the North End are loaded with them (insert obligatory State House joke here). Over here on the island of Eastie the n'hood cats have kept the rodents down, but skunks, possum and bedbugs do liven things up.

Most likely cause is BC kids drinking nips while waiting for the T to take them into the city for a night on the town.

Really?! I always forget that Boston residents don't drink. Remember the old saying. "When in doubt blame college kids." They are probably the ones gentrifying the South End and causing the murders in Dot as well.

This is nothing
compared with the Tab graveyard at the end of the Green Street platform. Yeah, I know--I didn't know that you could still buy Tab either, but apparently someone has a source AND they like to drop their cans off the end of the platform. There are dozens there, in varying stages of fade.

DD cup graveyard
My favorite is the Dunkin Donuts cup graveyard in the middle of the green line tunnel between Kenmore and Hynes when heading inbound by one of the red signals. There's probably some operator who everyday just pitches his cup there while waiting for the signal to change.
