Man who was charged with shooting eight in pre-Carnival gun battle removes GPS device and flees on eve of trial - and possible plea deal

Gerald Vick

Boston Police have put out an APB for Gerald Vick, who didn't show up in Suffolk Superior Court for his scheduled trial yesterday on charges that he shot eight people as part of a gun battle on Talbot Avenue in Dorchester on the morning of the annual Carnival celebration in August, 2023.

After Vick's indictment on Jan. 26 on a total of 14 charges - including eight counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a machine gun - Suffolk Superior Court Judge William Bloomer set bail at $6,000 and ordered Vick to home confinement, with a GPS device strapped to his ankle, court records show.

Vick had been making court appearances through last week - when his lawyer lost a bid to suppress evidence in the case - but yesterday he was a no-show for what would have been the beginning of his trial for the shootings and on the gun-possession charge - only there might not have been a trial because Suffolk Count prosecutors and his lawyer had come to a plea deal, court records show.

With no defendant in the courtroom, Judge Mark Hallal rescinded Vick's bail and issued an arrest warrant for him.

Court records show that probation-department records show an alert came in at 1:04 a.m. - eight hours before the start of jury selection.

Police say Vick is Black, about 5'6" and roughly 155 lbs. He has multiple tattoos - and connections to the Taunton area.

Anybody who sees him should call 911 immediately, police say, adding anybody with information about his whereabouts can call detectives at 617-343-4712 or contact the anonymous tip line by calling 800-494-TIPS or by texting TIP to CRIME (27463).

Slightly off topic, but what would it take to get certain events cancelled by the city? How many people would have to be shot? Five people shot at the Dominican Festival last year (three others murdered at a prior year's festival). Piles and piles of trash left all over Franklin Park. You could hear the music blasting from the festival from more than a mile away. Why should residents have to put up with this every year? Same with the trash and violence at St Patricks in Southie to a lesser degree. At least that event isn't all weekend. How is this worth it?

Last I check we're still doing the marathon every year.

Violence isn't a reason to cancel public events so stop grandstanding over this.

Parades don't make the city dangerous, canceling carnivals doesn't make us safer.

…. if we got rid of all three. Or at least made them less disruptive, messy and noisy.
An unlivable city eventually becomes a dead city.

Is also a dead city.

Look at how many once-thriving smaller cities in our area became dead when they turned into suburbs. Places like Waltham and Medford have only recently begun to reclaim a fraction of the civic and cultural energy that they once had.

Some of you will not be satisfied until Boston wins the title of most gentrified, sanitized, quietest, safest and sleepiest city in America.

Most of what made Boston a unique and interesting place to live and a culturally diverse place to live has either been eliminated, pushed out of the city entirely, or co-opted and commercialized.

Enough.

There wasn’t a bombing EVERY YEAR!

is just like the routine neighborhood violence we see at the parades in Dorchester. This type of elitist, water carrying for criminals is not good for those of us in the inner city. Please stop. Why don’t you ask the people that live in these neighborhoods how they feel about these events that essentiallly confine them to their homes out of fear.

Was fun. Good music, good food, great people with some, umm unfortunate incidents later in the day.

Don't surrender our lives to the fools please.

For a “progressive “, you sure do love to blow those dog whistles.

Didn't deter him from not showing up. Perhaps mass shooting suspects should have a higher bail? I know, crazy huh? Just a thought

This story from our source Universal Hub, was mentioned on Nightside with Dan Rea
