Boston boy catches fish in Boston pond with most Boston of baits
Christine Ventura of West Roxbury and her son Teddy, 7, pulled over on Enneking Parkway yesterday to try some fishing off the dock at Turtle Pond in Stony Brook Reservation - even though all they had for bait was some ham from a Dunkin' sandwich.
To our surprise (because we were fishing with Dunkin’ Donuts ham due to poor planning), he caught a pumpkinseed.
She says they got hooked on the idea of trying out the pond after seeing some folks catch and release fishing there on previous hikes around it, so went over - after first stopping at a nearby Dunk's for some sustenance - and, since they didn't have worms or lures, a ham sandwich to try to use for bait.
Teddy had some advice for going ham in the pond:
- Hide the hook in the ham, and make sure the fish goes to the hook side.
- Don’t reel the fish in, just pull it out. It takes too long to reel and the fish might get away.
Teddy, hooked on Turtle Pond fishing:
Mom adds:
They got the order wrong. We asked for 3 ham, egg, and cheese on a croissant (one for Teddy, one for the fish, and one for me) but they gave us 3 of the new ham and cheese croissant wrap thingies. Teddy also enjoyed a chocolate glazed donut, which he thought of using as bait as well. I told him it would disintegrate in the water.
